Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce the details on the 2020 Manitoba Games basketball regional tryouts.  The 2020 Manitoba Games will occur August 10-15 in Dauphin, Manitoba with a total of 8 regional teams for males and 8 regional teams for females created this spring at the 16U age level (born in 2004 or later).  The rural regions of Manitoba are permitted to carry as many 3 age 17U (born in 2003) players.  The regional teams will represent all areas of Manitoba including teams from the East, North, and two teams per gender from the South, the West, and Winnipeg for a total of 8 teams per gender.  The tryouts will occur in late March and April at various locations and training will continue through the spring and summer until the Games in August.

Basketball Manitoba is offering up to 18 FREE openings for a special NCCP Fundamentals coaching clinic in partnership with Sport Manitoba.  The NCCP Community Coach / Fundamentals Coaching Clinic is coming Saturday, April 4th to Winkler.  This clinic normally costs $120.00 to attend but is being offered as a free clinic to all coaches who will be working with players at the ages 14 and under.

Time: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Location: Garden Valley Collegiate, 736 Main St., Winkler, MB
Maximum Attendance: 10 people, first come first served
Prerequisite: Must be from a rural community or coach in the Jr. NBA program
Deadline: April 2, 2020, @ 4:00pm

REGISTER NOW: Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce details on the newly announced Canada Quest 18+ Female Division. 
  • 3x3 FEMALE 18+ DIVISION: The winning team in the Female 18+ Division will receive an entry into the CANADA QUEST NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, in Montreal, Quebec August 17-18, 2019. Prize includes return airfare for 4 to Montreal from Winnipeg, as well as hotel and tournament fee.  This level of play will attract players who have University / College / Professional experience playing basketball.  Teams without players at this level should consider registering in the "D04. 18+ co-ed Division" or lower.  Basketball Manitoba reserves the right to ensure players entering this division are of a high calibre background.

      Exciting, urban and innovative, 3x3 is inspired by several forms of streetball played worldwide and is considered the world’s number one urban team sport. Steered by FIBA, games see two teams of three players face off on a basketball half-court.  On June 9, 2017, 3x3 was added to the Olympic Program, starting from the Tokyo 2020 Games.

      3x3 is simple and flexible enough to be played anywhere by anybody. All you need is a hoop, a half-court and six players. Events can be staged outdoor and indoor in iconic locations to bring basketball directly to the people.

      Canada Basketball in working with FIBA will regulate the rules of the game, facilitate the promotion of the discipline and sanction the organization of 3x3 tournaments with the support of the Provincial Sporting Organizations.

      About FIBA 3x3 Basketball

      3x3 is considered the number one urban team sport. From the first official event at the 2010 Youth Olympics Games, FIBA has had an ambitious vision for the game.  3x3 is simple and flexible enough to be played anywhere by anybody.       The rules are very simple and designed to make it a fast, spectacular and exciting game. The non-stop music brings an authentic urban culture atmosphere, which attracts a new young audience to the games.

      Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce that the Jr. NBA and Steve Nash Youth Basketball programs have combined to create JNYB - Jr. NBA Youth Basketball. JNYB is looking to expand heading into this Spring Season and beyond!.  The program comes as part of a new partnership with NBA Canada for ages 5-12, with three different curriculums available. Jr. NBA will focus on the fundamental movement skills of running, jumping, throwing, catching, balance, agility, and coordination.

      The program will also work to begin and progress on the development of some of the fundamental basketball skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, rebound and playing defence.  There are currently over 15 locations running the program around Manitoba and we are looking to grow into new areas of the province.  Jillian Kehler, the  JNYB Ambassador for Manitoba is able to help get your program up and running!




      THE NEXT MANITOBA GAMES WILL OCCUR IN THE SUMMER OF 2024 IN DAUPHIN, MANITOBA.  

      The Manitoba Games are the province's largest ongoing multi-sport program, bringing together participants from across the province. The Summer Games are held every four years and alternate between summer and winter sports events. Each set of Games involves upwards of 10,000 athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers.





      Basketball Manitoba is pleased to partner with Winnipeg's Got Sole, Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association, Basketballs for Inner City Kids, the Manitoba Aboriginal Sports and Recreation Commission (MASRC), the Boys and Girls Club of Winnipeg and KidSport to actively collect gently used basketball equipment for children in need.  We are calling on the entire basketball community to donate basketballs and basketball shoes to the program so they can be 'rebounded' over to someone in need! You can donate your items to the program by dropping off your gently used basketballs or basketball shoes at one of the locations!

      Three reasons why you should donate to the Basketball Equipment Recycling Program...
      1. Help a child in need who wants to play basketball but cannot without the basic equipment
      2. Reduce the amount of garbage heading to our landfills
      3. De-clutter your basement of unneeded basketballs or basketball shoes

      The Manitoba Provincial Team Program is the premier player and coach development program in the province.  The program attracts the top players and coaches to represent Manitoba at national and international events.  Ages 15U and 17U are offered to both male and female players and the program operates annually May through late July.

      The Canada Basketball/Basketball Manitoba Center for Performance Program is a regional training centre designed to bring together male (ages 12-15) and female (ages 12-17) Canadian basketball athletes.  The program targets high potential athletes and provides them with advanced level training and experiences to help them develop into an elite level basketball player. 

      Basketball Manitoba gratefully acknowledges the support of the Sport Medicine Council of Manitoba to the Centre for Performance Program!



      Male and female athletes from Manitoba are identified on an annual basis to participate in the Manitoba Region Centre for Performance training programs. The program is directed at training athletes. The program runs from September to December before pausing for the school season. There will be classroom sessions in January and February before the program wraps up in early April leading into the 15U Provincial Team spring try-outs.

      The female program will also have an expanded competiton component added to the program with addionial games through out-of-province tournaments and other exhibiton games to add to the training component.

      What is Canada Basketball’s Centres For Performance Program?
      • Canada Basketball’s Centres for/de Performance (CP) program is an elite program for players and coaches designed to teach individual offensive and team fundamentals while also presenting aspects of sports science that are necessary to become a high level player and coach.
      • The Centres for Performance program is the key component of Canada Basketball’s national player and coach identification and development strategy.
      • Canada Basketball’s – Centres for Performance program was established because of an identified need for a more systematic, thorough and unified national approach to identify and develop outstanding junior basketball players in every province and territory in Canada. It was also identified that a network of coaches be established and continuing development of this network of coaches be undertaken to ensure the thorough and contemporary delivery of the technical program to the athletes.

      How Does Canada Basketball’s – Centres For Performance Program Work?
      • The Centres for Performance program is a nationally directed initiative which is delivered through the provinces/territories in partnership with the Canadian Sports Centres across Canada.  The Center For Performance is the start of the National Team identification pathway for athletes.
      • The program offers highly qualified coaching staff trained with National Team curriculum to work with participants between the ages of 12 to 15.
      • The program has a heavy emphasis on developing individual fundamentals and also teaches team principles of play.
      • Players receive education on sports nutrition, psychology, strength, agility and physical testing.

      Basketball Manitoba, the University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg are excited to announce the details of the 13th annual 'Super Coaches Clinic' weekend scheduled for October 21-22, 2022, at the University of Manitoba Investors Group Athletic Centre.  The clinic is a partnership with the University of Manitoba Bisons and the University of Winnipeg Wesmen as a joint offering to the basketball community.  The clinic will run at the same time as the province-wide 'SAGE' in-service day on Friday, October 21 and is registered as a professional development event by PHE Manitoba

      Basketball Manitoba is pleased to offer to Manitoba School Divisions the opportunity to host one of the 'Basketball Coach School' Clinics this November or December. The clinics will be offered at NO COST to the host School Division and are targeted to in-school middle / junior high and high school coaches and can be set up in conjunction with an existing coordinated or in-service day.  The clinics can range in length between 3-6 hours and will be conducted by Basketball Manitoba Technical Director Dan Becker along with a variety of special guests including Randy Kusano, Ross Wedlake, Grant Richter among others.  

      The clinics will include age and grade appropriate topics including fundamental drills and skills (shooting, passing, dribbling), practice management and basic team offensive and defensive concepts. A maximum of eight (8) of these clinics will be offered and a maximum of no more than one (1) clinic per school division per school year. Clinics will be filled on a first come first served basis.

      The Basketball Manitoba High Performance Camps are for experienced players under the age of 18. Three different camps times are traditionally offered throughout the year including in August, October, January and March.  The camps have an emphasis on improving the
      athlete’s fundamental skills and understanding of the game and provides an 8 to 1 player to coach ratio and is taught by some of the most successful coaches and players in Manitoba!
