Basketball Manitoba is proud to formally announce the final rosters for the 2026 Manitoba Provincial Teams. These six teams – 14U Female, 14U Male, 15U Female, 15U Male, 17U Female and 17U Male will go on to train and represent the province this summer at various events, with the 15U and 17U teams at the Canada Basketball National Championships in Saskatchewan (male) and Quebec (female).
Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce the launch of the 2026 Manitoba Provincial Team Basketball Program Fundraiser, supporting athletes selected to represent the province through the Manitoba Provincial Team program.
The fundraising campaign has a goal of $15,000, with proceeds directly supporting the participants' key program costs, including training, travel, equipment and other athlete development needs. Donors can direct their support to a specific member of the Manitoba Provincial Team.
Fundraising plays an important role in keeping provincial team basketball accessible and sustainable for athletes and families. Each participant will have an individual fundraising goal and will be able to share their campaign through email, text, and social media.
Basketball Manitoba is partnering with Vertical Raise, an online fundraising platform designed to help teams and organizations raise funds efficiently while reducing the time and energy traditionally required to manage campaigns. The platform provides participants with easy online sign-up, personalized campaign pages, donation tracking, and support from experienced fundraising coaches.
Supporters will have several ways to contribute, including direct donations, the Vertical Discounts App, and other options. The Vertical Discounts App includes access to Entertainment Book offers across North America, featuring more than 1,000,000 discounts.
Business owners and companies are also invited to support the campaign through corporate sponsorship opportunities. Sponsors can receive prominent recognition on the fundraising page, creating a strong opportunity to support Manitoba athletes while gaining visibility with families, supporters, and the broader basketball community.
“By using the Vertical Raise fundraising platform last year, the Manitoba Provincial Team was able to exceed our goal and raise over $20,000 directly toward participant registration fees with very little effort,” said Adam Wedlake, Executive Director of Basketball Manitoba. “The process is straightforward, and the support provided made it easy to focus on promoting the initiative rather than worrying about logistics. What impressed us most was how much could be accomplished in such a short amount of time.”
Basketball Manitoba encourages families, friends, alumni, businesses, and basketball supporters across the province to get behind the 2026 Manitoba Provincial Team athletes and help them reach their fundraising goals.
Basketball Manitoba hosted the 10th annual Prairie Cup Challenge on June 27–28, 2026, at the Sport Manitoba Courts in Winnipeg, marking the first time in the event’s history that the series was held in Manitoba’s capital city.

Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce details on the 2026 Provincial Team Tryouts for the upcoming summer. The tryouts for the program will take place May 8-10 at the Sport Manitoba Courts (aka Canada Games Sport for Life Centre), 145 Pacific Avenue in Winnipeg, MB.
The 2026 Manitoba Provincial Team Program will be forming a total of six teams. The 15U and 17U male teams will represent Manitoba at the Canada Basketball National Championships hosted in Regina, Saskatchewan. The 15U and 17U female teams will represent Manitoba at the Canada Basketball National Championship, hosted in Sherbrooke, Quebec. The 14U teams will be a development group, travelling to tournaments and competitions in July. The ages for the teams will be 17U (born in 2009 or later), 15U (born in 2011 or later) and 14U (born in 2012 or later) at both the male and female levels. Details on the Manitoba Provincial Team coaching staff announced earlier this year can be found HERE.
The teams will be selected from the May 8-10 open tryouts, and any Manitoba resident in one of the defined age categories is eligible and welcome to try out. Once the teams are chosen, they will train and compete together through June, July, and early August. Information can be found HERE.

MANITOBA PROVINCIAL TEAM PROGRAM TRYOUT DETAILS

- REGISTRATION: Online preregistration is required (links below)
- CHECK-IN: On-site check-in will begin 30 minutes before the first tryout per age category.
- BRING A BASKETBALL: Players are asked to bring their own basketball (Female size 6, Male size 7)
- TRYOUT FEE: $40.00 per person is due at the time of online registration (credit card or eTransfer payment options are available).
- REVERSIBLE JERSEY: All registered players will receive and keep a 'Basketball Manitoba' reversible jersey
- ARRIVAL TIME: Players should arrive at least 20 minutes early to the tryout sessions, dressed and ready to play
- PROGRAM FEES: All players selected for one of the Provincial Teams will be assessed the $1,500 program fee for transportation, accommodations, meals and flight to the National Championships. The program fee also includes gear packages, training costs, and insurance. Basketball Manitoba subsidizes 50% of the total cost of the summer program. Additional fundraising, financial support programs, and payment options are available. Please note that this fee may change as the new Basketball Manitoa budget and finances are set heading into the spring.

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY
All eligible players must fit into one of the following age divisions and have been a resident of Manitoba on or before February 1, 2026.
Age Advancement
Basketball Manitoba allows a younger player to play up an age for a Provincial Team. Any younger-age athlete who wishes to try out for an older-age program is welcome to do so. After the first session, the older coaching staff and Selection Committee can decide whether the younger athlete will continue in the older tryouts or be asked to return to the younger tryouts. Any athlete looking to try out at an older age must contact Dan Becker first.
Northwestern Ontario Residents
Those residing in Northwestern Ontario (west of and including Thunder Bay) can try out once they have first contacted the Basketball Manitoba office and then received written clearance from Basketball Ontario. Contact Adam Wedlake first before proceeding.
Provincial Team Selection Policy
Updated in November 2023, the Basketball Manitoba Board of Directors passed a motion on a new Provincial Team Selection Policy. As part of our commitment to providing a transparent and equitable Provincial Team selection procedure, there is a need for a consistent policy to protect the integrity of the Provincial Team program and its coaches. Team Commitment In June & July & National Championships
Basketball Manitoba has moved the Provincial Team tryouts to late May, avoiding much of the club basketball season. Athletes selected on one of the Manitoba Provincial Teams will be expected to fully commit to the program for all practices, training sessions and competitions. If you have any questions, please contact Dan Becker.

*NOTE: due to the growing attendance in the past years, all male athletes born in 2011 or later will have the first 2 sessions of tryouts divided according to their birth year. Session #3 will combine all male athletes born in 2011 or later, and a final decision on the 14U and 15U teams will be made.
Players must plan to attend the first two sessions for their respective age group and gender. Decisions will begin after the second session, with only those invited returning for the third session. You can still attend session #2 if you miss the first date. However, the coaching staff will have significantly less time to evaluate you on the court. Those who miss the first session may not receive a reversible jersey.
Basketball Manitoba has now created a new "Athlete Recommendation Form" that invites submissions from across the province for high-potential athletes who could be considered for future membership in the Manitoba Provincial Team program, the Targeted Athlete Strategy and/or the Targeted Athlete Program and Wheelchair Basketball opportunities. We are seeking support from the basketball community to help identify future talent and ensure we always represent the province at national and international events, including the Canada Games, with our best.
If you know of or coach an athlete currently aged 12 to 17 years old in Manitoba that you think could be a future member of either program, please complete and submit this form. This will be an ongoing feature of Basketball Manitoba's programming, and there is no deadline in place to submit this data, as it will be collected on a continual basis moving forward.

Basketball Manitoba is very pleased to announce its Provincial Team Program coaching lineup at the 17U and 15U levels for the summer of 2026. This summer, the program will feature a total of 6 teams at the male & female 17U, 15U and 14U levels. The head coaches of the teams (and pictured in the order above from left to right) are Dan Becker (17UM), Eric Sung (17UF), Patrick Mart (15UM) and Kelli Sinnock (15UF), Steven Wesley (14UM) and Victor Lee (14UF).

Basketball Manitoba has announced that it is now accepting applications for the 2026 Manitoba Provincial Team Program for the 17U and 15U male and female age group coaching positions.
The deadline for all coaching applications is Friday, December 12, 2025, at 5:00 pm.
Basketball Manitoba is reminding the basketball community to help with a feature on its website that archives all past players and coaches who have been a part of the Manitoba Provincial Team program. The archive is growing and needs your help! We have a solid collection of information from 2002 to the present, but much of the data was unfortunately missing before that. Manitoba 17U Provincial Teams Conclude Competition at the 2025 Canada Games
The final results for its 17U Male and Female Provincial Teams have finalized following a full week of competition at the 2025 Canada Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland from August 10–16, 2025.
17U Male Results (Final Record: 5-1, 5th Place)
The Manitoba 17U Male Provincial Team delivered an impressive run, finishing the tournament with a 5-1 overall record and securing 5th place.

- August 12: Manitoba 96 – Northwest Territories 51
- August 13: Manitoba 74 – Newfoundland & Labrador 49
- August 14 (Quarterfinals): Manitoba 74 – British Columbia 81

17U Female Results (Final Record: 3-3, 10th Place)
The Manitoba 17U Female Provincial Team battled through a competitive week, finishing with an even 3-3 record and placing 10th overall.

Final Outcomes
The 17U Male team demonstrated strong consistency throughout the week, capped by a high-scoring 5th place finish over Nova Scotia. The 17U Female team opened with three consecutive wins, including an overtime thriller against the host province, and closed in 10th place after back-to-back battles against strong competition.
Both teams represented Manitoba with determination and pride, leaving a strong mark at the 2025 Canada Games.

Basketball Manitoba is proud to announce that 15U Male Provincial Team member Veer Brar has been named to the All-Canadian Second Team at the 2025 Canada Basketball National Championships, held in Toronto, Ontario from August 4–9.
Brar played a pivotal role in Manitoba's 5th-place finish, helping guide the team to an overall record of 5-1. Manitoba's game results over the week included:
- Manitoba 80 – Newfoundland & Labrador 47 (1-0)
- Manitoba 77 – New Brunswick 71 (2-0)
- Manitoba 74 – Alberta 98 (2-1)
- Manitoba 101 – Saskatchewan 65 (3-1)
- Manitoba 85 – New Brunswick 74 (4-1)
- Manitoba 80 – Nova Scotia 64 (5-1) – 5th place game
Entering Grade 10 at Maples Collegiate, Brar has been involved in basketball for over 11 years. He will continue at Maples Collegiate this fall, representing both his school team under coach Philip Sousa and his club program, Attack Basketball, under coach Sukhvir Singh.
Brar's summer goal was to “to grow every day as a player,” with aspirations of playing university basketball in the future. His fondest basketball memory to date is winning the provincial junior varsity championships earlier this year. He credits his father Davinder as his biggest basketball influence, names Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as his favourite player, and supports the Oklahoma City Thunder as his favourite team.
Looking ahead, Brar aims to pursue post-secondary athletics while working toward an education degree, with a long-term goal of becoming a teacher once his playing career concludes.
