The Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association is seeking individuals (ages 18 and above) to work as Gym Supervisors with the League.  Responsibilities include setting up and closing the gym on game days, transporting game-day equipment to and from the gym, and ensuring the day runs smoothly and safely according to League rules.

Games are played throughout Winnipeg on Saturdays and Sundays, year-round. The rate of pay is $16-$18 per hour, depending upon qualifications and experience. Employees must be available to work most weekends, have knowledge of basketball and have access to a vehicle. There is the potential to work 20 hours per weekend.

The Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference is seeking a part-time Executive Director to contribute to the leadership of our organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will contribute to the organization’s strategic planning, act as an advocate and spokesperson for the organization and manage the day-to-day operations of the MCAC, among other responsibilities that contribute to the mission of the organization.

Job Type: Contract – Part Time (.30FTE), Fully Remote

Working Hours: hours work around key meeting dates and the competitive sports schedule of the conference. Work hours will include evenings and weekends. Hours and expectations increase around conference championship schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development, execution and monitoring of the strategic plan.
  • Ensure there are effective reporting tools and accountability measures.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain productive working relationships with the Directors, Committees, the membership, the CCAA, other conference offices, partners, stakeholders and other staff.
  • Provide leadership to staff and committee chairs to implement approved plans and achieve the goals set out in those plans and job descriptions.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of MCAC. Ensure that all functions of the organization are meeting objectives and targets.

  • Work with MCAC Directors to conduct the general business operations of the MCAC.
  • Effective communication of association events, policies and procedures.

Duties/Expectations:

Availability to work a minimum of 1-2 days weekly: The candidate must be available to work during a block of consecutive class times, as well as make time for paid training and session planning.

Pre-Program and Post-Program: Review the practice plan ahead of time and lead in the setup and tear down of the classes, while maintaining the ability to greet and say goodbye to participants and their parents. Coaches are paid to be there for pre and post-program tasks; adequate time is built in before and after, so you are never rushed.

Builds Rapport: All successful Mini Ballers coaches view it as their privilege to get to know the little ones in their classes. This means they make it a top priority to learn their names as quickly as possible and have the desire and the ability to connect with the students and their families.

Interest in Early Childhood Development: Mini Ballers currently offers programming for children ages 1-8 years old. Successful candidates must be genuinely interested in the development and well-being of young children. As well as be excited and open to differentiating instruction for children with developmental delays and/or disabilities. The large majority of Mini Ballers programming is designed for preschool-age children aged 1-5.

Performative Coaching: The ideal candidate is professional, without being stiff. They can captivate children's attention. They are ready to be on display and use their voice, facial expressions, and body gestures to deliver quick instruction, imaginative play scenarios, explanations, and demonstrations. The successful candidate should have experience following formal practice and/or lesson plans which include written instructions and drawings.

Multi-tasker: The successful candidate can be described as a personable leader who can provide calm and clear directions in a busy space and can improvise and adlib. They should be comfortable following directions from the lead coach while also displaying their own autonomy and discretion when working with small groups, e.g., at stations.

Social Media Savvy: The successful candidate is comfortable with being featured in social media content and able to use their own working cell phone with available storage to record short videos and take pictures for use on Mini Ballers social media platforms. The images/videos can be immediately exported post-session; there is no obligation to archive pictures/videos. At Mini Ballers, we work as a team to produce content for our social media platforms. The Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association (WMBA) is seeking an individual to fill the position of Executive Director. The WMBA is a not-for-profit organization with a mandate to provide a positive environment for all Winnipeg and surrounding area youth, coaches, referees, and parents by promoting the sport of basketball through community centre programs.

The Position: 

As the Executive Director for Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association, you are responsible for the effective and efficient management of the Association’s activities and resources in accordance with direction provided by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director, in this capacity, shall work with the Board of Directors in the development, review and implementation of Association policy and general operations of the league. The Executive Director shall have overall responsibility for the development of planning, programming, and fiscal management of the Association in accordance with approved policies.

The Candidate: 

The WMBA is looking for a highly motivated and high-energy person who is capable of multi-tasking and has exceptional organizational skills. The candidate will have at least two (2) years of experience with financial and staff management and will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage the day-to-day activities of the organization. An understanding of Winnipeg Minor Basketball programs, the local basketball scene and the community centre system would be an asset.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • A post secondary degree or diploma in a business discipline or equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. 
  • Must have at least two (2) years of previous management or executive director experience
  • Must have excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office/Google Suite 
  • Must have a valid driver's licence
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and calmness under pressure.
  • Experience with leading, coaching, mentoring and performance management of staff/teams.
  • The ability to set objectives, plan, prioritize, monitor and control resources of the organization to ensure tasks and projects are completed on time.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with different internal and external stakeholders
  • Effective written skills to prepare clear reports and deal with a wide range of individuals.

Desired:

  • Previous social media management experience is an asset
  • Successful fundraising and development experience is an asset
  • Experience in large-scale program development is an asset

The MCAC is seeking statisticians for the upcoming basketball season. Games will be hosted at CMU, PUC and USB.  They are looking to create 2 three-person crews (1-2 spotters and one individual to enter stats into the computer system). Individuals will receive between $30 and $35 per game based on experience with two games each evening.

You should have a good understanding of the game of basketball but do not need to be an expert.

The Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame and Museum is looking to hire an individual for a contract project starting around May 2023 and ending September 2023. We are looking for an Indigenous Researcher who will gather information and artifacts which will tell the story of the role Indigenous people have played in the growth of the sport of basketball in Canada, with a special emphasis on Manitoba-related information and people

This project is based upon Recommendation #87 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Final Report – “We call upon all levels of government, in collaboration with Aboriginal peoples, sports halls of fame, and other relevant organizations, to provide public education that tells the national story of Aboriginal athletes in history.” 

“Indigenous” designation includes First Nations/Aboriginal, Métis, and Inuit peoples. “Information and artifacts” include (but are not limited to) Indigenous/basketball-related pictures, interviews, personal stories, physical objects, videos, newspaper articles, etc. to document and recognize the important role Indigenous people have played, and continue to play, in the sport of basketball in Canada. We are seeking a motivated person to reach out to all/various sources of information and artifacts, including current and former Indigenous players, Indigenous organizations and associations, clubs, elders, etc., using various methods of communication – face-to-face conversations/interviews, phone, Zoom/Facetime, etc. which may require some travel and means of recording the information and collecting the artifacts.

The skills required will be:

  • the ability to accurately record oral and electronic communication

Children and Families Programs Coordinator


The Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame and Museum is looking to hire an individual for a contract project starting around April 1 and ending May 31, 2023. We are in the early stages of using Musetoba to manage information about our museum collection. Musetoba is a shared database for museum collections designed by the Association of Manitoba Museums (AMM). We are seeking a motivated person to enter data labelling many of the items in our extensive heritage collection of basketball-related artifacts.

 In this Phase 1 of the project, an accession number, a description, and a photograph of each item will need to be entered into the database using a supplied laptop computer or iPad. Our objective is to have all photographs, clothing items, and some printed materials labelled and entered into the database during this first phase of the project. 

All work will be completed at our site on the 2nd floor of the Duckworth Centre at the University of Winnipeg. The hours will be very flexible as the site is open to the public every day, except holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Training will be provided.

The skills required will be:

  • technical skills using databases – important
  • some experience with the Musetoba program would be an asset
  • experience with scanners and image manipulation skills
  • excellent organizational and verbal/written communication skills
  • attention to detail 
  • the ability to work independently 
  • some knowledge of sport heritage items

Current Basketball Manitoba Program Coordinator Tiffany Peape is leaving the organization on November 4 to pursue a different career opportunity. An additional posting has been made about her final day with Basketball Manitoba.  


EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: BASKETBALL MANITOBA PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Basketball Manitoba is a not-for-profit organization responsible for developing and promoting the game of basketball throughout the province of Manitoba.  Basketball Manitoba is focused on developing athletes, coaches and officials. Currently, it employs three full-time people as its Executive Director, Technical Director and Program Coordinator, and other part-time or contract-based staff.  The Association is currently seeking applications for its Program Coordinator position.
