The Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame and Museum is looking to hire an individual for a contract project starting around April 1 and ending May 31, 2023. We are in the early stages of using Musetoba to manage information about our museum collection. Musetoba is a shared database for museum collections designed by the Association of Manitoba Museums (AMM). We are seeking a motivated person to enter data labelling many of the items in our extensive heritage collection of basketball-related artifacts.

In this Phase 1 of the project, an accession number, a description, and a photograph of each item will need to be entered into the database using a supplied laptop computer or iPad. Our objective is to have all photographs, clothing items, and some printed materials labelled and entered into the database during this first phase of the project.

All work will be completed at our site on the 2nd floor of the Duckworth Centre at the University of Winnipeg. The hours will be very flexible as the site is open to the public every day, except holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Training will be provided.

The skills required will be:

  • technical skills using databases – important
  • some experience with the Musetoba program would be an asset
  • experience with scanners and image manipulation skills
  • excellent organizational and verbal/written communication skills
  • attention to detail
  • the ability to work independently
  • some knowledge of sport heritage items

An honorarium of $4,000 will be paid in two installments – 50% at the beginning and 50% upon successful completion. We anticipate that this position will require 150 - 200 hours of work or about 20 - 25 hours per week.

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, a resume, and two references to Ross Wedlake, Chair, Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame and Museum, at rosswedlake@gmail.com by March 20, 2023. Only those receiving an interview will be contacted.
