NOW OPEN: The Club Team Registration Portal opens for the upcoming season (as of Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 10:00 am), allowing programs to register their teams directly with Basketball Manitoba, effective for the 2026-27 club season.  Club teams must also register with Basketball Manitoba while registering with a respective club league or tournament, including Peg City Basketball and other club competitions.  

This annual process will ensure that all team members and facilities are properly registered and insured, and that coaches complete the needed Criminal Records Check background screening steps per Basketball Manitoba Policy.  Coaches will also be prompted to enter their Respect in Sport completion code, NCCP coach certification status and other important details.  All coaches must complete their Respect in Sport training before coaching in their first game this season.  

The Team Registration Fees are $550 per team.  An additional $30 per coach fee has been added to address the costs of completing a criminal records check.  Coaches who have completed a Criminal Records Check with Basketball Manitoba in the past 5 years do not need to complete one again.   

NEW FOR 2026: As part of your club registration, you will receive an automatic free registration for up to 3 coaches to the Basketball Manitoba Super Coaches Clinic, set for Friday, October 23, 2026, online ($120 value), for clubs who register before October 1, 2026.   

This process, including fee payment options (Interac eTransfer or credit card), will be 100% online, eliminating the need for paper, in-person, or mailed payments. 

Basketball Manitoba Membership includes...

  • Accident and Liability insurance coverage for up to 15 players and 3 coaches for basketball activities (games, practices, training) while in Canada and the USA for one full calendar year.
  • Liability insurance coverage for all facilities used by your program for up to $5,000,000 in protection.
  • Costs tied to providing background screening for your coaches in your program ($30.00 per coach). 
  • Access to MABO-certified and insured basketball officials for games hosted in Manitoba
  • Opportunity to promote your program's activities (tryouts, camps, competitions, results, etc.) on Basketball Manitoba communication platforms (including website, social media, email newsletters, etc.)

Central Plains Basketball Club has announced fall 2026 basketball tryouts for girls born in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, and boys born in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. Sessions are scheduled for September 11–13 at Portage Collegiate Institute (PCI) in Portage la Prairie.

The tryout for girls born in 2009, 2010 and 2011 that was originally scheduled for Thursday, September 10 has been moved to Friday, September 11, from 7:00–8:30 p.m. in the PCI West Gym. A second session for this group has been added on Sunday, September 13.

Northern Elite Basketball Club has announced open tryouts for its U17 boys program for the upcoming fall and spring seasons.

The grassroots club serves athletes from Northern Manitoba and plans to focus on individual skill development and basketball IQ while offering competition opportunities. Athletes of all skill levels are welcome to attend.

Prairie Hoops has announced a basketball tryout session for male athletes born in 2011 and 2012 on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Lindenwoods Community Centre in Winnipeg.

The tryout will run from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. and is open to players of all skill levels. A $5 registration fee applies.

The session will be led by coach Billy Isaac, who has more than 30 years of coaching experience.

Club Basketball tryouts are set to begin this weekend as part of the open window for teams to host formal sessions to prepare for the upcoming season.  Club teams can formally begin their open tryouts, which typically occur on the third Friday of August.  In 2026, that date is Friday, August 14.   

Basketball Manitoba encourages players to attend more than one club tryout to make an informed decision on which club option best supports their developmental needs.  

Basketball Manitoba has been regularly posting details on these tryouts on its website, social media and in its email newsletters, which usually target male and female players in the 11-17 age range.  Other clubs are still expected to post additional tryout information shortly, so to stay in the loop, we suggest you subscribe to our email newsletter or follow us on social media (links below).

EDGE ELiTE Tryouts for Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12

Athletes must attend both sessions.

Edge Elite has announced that athlete registration is now open for the 2026-27 season for athletes at the Grade 4 through high school, prep, college, and university levels.

Registration is available at www.edgeelite.ca.

The program will continue with a development-first approach organized around four areas: Mind, Body, Skill and Team.

Registration will be used to assess athlete interest, developmental fit and roster balance before teams are formed. Teams will be established where there is sufficient interest and an appropriate developmental and competitive fit.

All athletes, including current THRiVE athletes, must register and attend an EDGE ELITE evaluation/tryout.  Families are registering an athlete and are not selecting a specific team. Age, grade and birth year will be used to organize athletes, while final placement will be based on developmental and competitive fit.

For competition, Edge Elite teams will not participate in the PegCity League. Teams will instead play exhibition games against other clubs and enter selected tournaments. The competition schedule will be determined for each group while maintaining time for practices and athlete development.

Basketball Manitoba is communicating to all active basketball clubs in the province when the window for tryouts for next year's programs may begin. As has been the agreement for the past number of years, no tryouts for next year's club programs shall begin before a set date in August, which will be Friday, August 14, 2026. The time restriction will provide an equal starting point for clubs to plan and begin their programs for the next season, allowing for some needed rest and recovery time away from basketball for players, coaches, and families. Clubs can continue their tryouts through August and into September.

Reign Basketball Club has announced a series of athlete identification opportunities in Winnipeg and Brandon, including 14U/15U club tryouts in Winnipeg on August 28-29, 2026, and three junior varsity and varsity ID session weekends in Brandon during September, October and November 2026.

Reign Basketball Club will host two tryout sessions for competitive athletes interested in its Winnipeg 14U/15U age division. The sessions are intended for athletes who are prepared to work, develop and compete as part of the Reign program.

Brandon JV and Varsity ID Sessions

Reign Basketball Club will also host three identification session weekends in Brandon during September, October and November 2026 for athletes in the junior varsity and varsity age divisions.

The sessions will help athletes prepare for the upcoming school basketball season and Reign Basketball Club's Spring 2027 club season. They will also give the club's coaching staff an opportunity to evaluate prospective athletes ahead of its Spring 2027 team selections.

Each two-day weekend session will focus on a different stage of athlete development.

September - Set the Standard

Athletes will build the habits, fundamentals and mindset that define a Reign athlete.

October - Raise the Level

Athletes will increase their pace, sharpen their skills and improve their decision-making under pressure.

November - Compete and Execute

Athletes will apply their skills in competitive, game-like situations with an emphasis on reads, execution and competition.

The Brandon sessions are part of Reign Basketball Club's longer-term goal of establishing a full-year club program in the community. The club will begin by offering Spring 2027 club teams.

Each Brandon ID session costs $30. Exact dates will be announced one month in advance, and each session will take place over two days on a weekend.

BTBD Hoops x Relentless Launches New Team Development Division, Names Rodger Salm as Director

BTBD Hoops x Relentless has announced the launch of its new Team Development Division, reinforcing the club’s commitment to building one of Manitoba’s premier basketball development programs.

Leading the new division is Rodger Salm, who joins the organization as Director of Team Development. In this strategic leadership role, Salm will focus on strengthening the club through player recruitment, coach mentorship, communications, community partnerships, organizational growth and creating a positive experience for athletes and their families.

With more than 30 years of leadership, marketing and organizational development experience, combined with over a decade of coaching youth basketball and his current role as an assistant coach with the Canadian Mennonite University women’s basketball program, Salm brings a unique blend of business leadership and basketball experience to the organization.

“Basketball has always been about more than wins and losses. It is about creating opportunities, building confidence and helping young athletes reach their full potential. I am excited to work alongside Patrick and the coaching staff to continue building a club that families are proud to be part of,” said Salm.

Patrick Sumugat, owner of BTBD Hoops x Relentless, believes the new position reflects the club’s long-term vision.

“Rodger’s experience extends far beyond basketball. He understands how successful organizations are built and how strong cultures are created. As our club continues to grow, we are excited to have his leadership helping shape the future of BTBD Hoops x Relentless and the experience we provide to our athletes and families,” said Sumugat.

Cobras Basketball Club has announced an upcoming team tryout for boys born in 2010 as the club prepares for the next basketball season.

The tryout will take place on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sturgeon Heights Community Centre, 210 Rita Street in Winnipeg.

The registration fee is $15 per player and must be paid by e-transfer.

Ambush Basketball Opens Registration for 2026–27 Boys’ and Girls’ Club Team Tryouts August 18–20 in Winnipeg

Ambush Basketball has opened registration for its 2026–27 club team tryouts, offering opportunities for boys and girls in the U10 to U17 age categories.

The three-night tryout period will run from Tuesday, August 18 to Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Youth for Christ, 333 King Street in Winnipeg.

Ignite Canada Basketball has announced its open tryout schedule for three boys’ club teams ahead of the 2026–27 basketball season.

Tryouts for boys born in 2010, 2011 and 2013 will be held over three days from Friday, August 21 through Sunday, August 23 at the University of Saint-Boniface in Winnipeg. Each age group will participate in three evaluation sessions under its designated coaching staff.

2010 Boys

Coaches: Jared and Ali

  • Friday, August 21: 12:00–2:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 22: 3:45–5:15 p.m.
  • Sunday, August 23: 4:00–5:30 p.m.
2011 Boys

Coaches: Thane, Michael and Jun

  • Friday, August 21: 2:15–4:15 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 22: 2:00–3:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, August 23: 2:15–3:45 p.m.
2013 Boys

Location and Registration

All tryouts will take place at the University of Saint-Boniface, located at 195 Rue Despins in Winnipeg.

The tryout fee is $25, and all participants must bring their own basketball.

The Manitoba Magic basketball club has announced its boys’ and girls’ club team tryout schedule for the 2026–27 season, with evaluations taking place Saturday, August 22 and Sunday, August 23 at Canadian Mennonite University in Winnipeg.

The two-day tryout weekend will include opportunities for girls born from 2009 through 2012 and boys in several age divisions covering birth years from 2009 through 2016. Athletes are required to attend both scheduled tryout sessions for their respective division.

All evaluations will be held at Canadian Mennonite University, 500 Shaftesbury Boulevard. The tryout fee is $25 per athlete.

  • Saturday, August 22: 9:30–11:00 a.m.
  • Sunday, August 23: 10:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

  • Sunday, August 23: 12:00–1:30 p.m.

Boys born in 2012

Junior Bisons Basketball has opened registration for its 2026–2027 club basketball tryouts, inviting athletes born from 2009 through 2015 to take part in a two-day evaluation at the University of Manitoba.

Programming is led by University of Manitoba Bisons basketball head coaches Michele Sung and Kirby Schepp, with sessions facilitated by Junior Bisons club coaches.

  • Eligible Birth Years: 2009–2015
  • Location: Frank Kennedy Gymnasiums, University of Manitoba
  • Tryout Fee: $30 per athlete.  

Registration Details

  • The registration fee includes both tryout dates.
  • Athletes should plan to attend both evaluation sessions assigned to their age group.
  • Pre-registration is mandatory. Walk-up registrations will not be accepted at the gym.
  • All tryout fees are non-refundable.

REFRESH Basketball has announced its boys’ club team tryout schedule for the 2026–27 season, with four days of evaluations set for August 14–17 at St. John’s-Ravenscourt School in Winnipeg.

Boys’ Tryout Schedule

All sessions will take place in the gymnasium at St. John’s-Ravenscourt School, located at 400 South Drive.

Saturday, August 15 — Tryout 1

  • Boys born in 2009: 8:30–10:00 p.m.

Sunday, August 16 — Tryout 2

  • Boys born in 2015 and 2016: 5:30–7:00 p.m.

Monday, August 17 — Tryout 2

  • Boys born in 2013 and 2014: 5:30–7:00 p.m.

Athletes must attend their first scheduled tryout to qualify for the second evaluation. Participants are asked to arrive 30 minutes before their session. The tryout fee is $30.

The Warchiefs Basketball Club has opened registration for its 2026–27 basketball tryouts, offering Winnipeg-area athletes a program centred on long-term player development, structured training and year-round commitment.

The Warchiefs are seeking full-time players who are prepared to commit exclusively to the club.  All tryouts will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sturgeon Heights Community Centre.
