The Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association (WMBA) has announced several significant updates following the successful hosting of its 2025 Annual General Meeting—an evening dedicated to reflecting on the past season, recognizing key contributors, and looking ahead to the continued growth of youth basketball in Winnipeg.
Highlights from the evening included the appointment of Tanya Cartwright as the new WMBA President and Carrissa Reyes as Vice President of Operations. The organization also welcomed two new members to its Board of Directors.
The WMBA recognized excellence in coaching by naming Tom Weselak as the 2025 Coach of the Year. In addition, the association awarded scholarships to two outstanding student-athletes: Simrit Kaler and Andrew Chammartin.
A major highlight of the AGM was the induction of six individuals into the WMBA Hall of Fame for their exceptional contributions to the basketball community. This year’s inductees are:
- Lori Hiscock
- Jan Voss
- Larry Kabez
- The late Dale Gamey (accepted by his son, Jay Gamey)
- Adam Wedlake
- Mike Ruta
The WMBA is currently seeking applicants for one open seat on its Board of Directors. Individuals with a passion for grassroots basketball and a commitment to community development are encouraged to inquire by contacting info@wmba.ca.
The WMBA extends its sincere thanks to all members, volunteers, coaches, and families who continue to help shape the future of youth basketball in Winnipeg.
