The 2022 Manitoba Provincial Team Program will be forming a total of six teams that will represent Manitoba at these national championships along with the 2022 Canada Games taking place in Niagra Falls, Ontario for teams at the 18U level.  The three ages for the teams will be 18U (born in 2004 or later), 17U (born in 2005 or later) and 15U (born in 2007 or later) at both the male and female levels.  Details on the tryouts will be announced in late April.  Details on the Manitoba coaching staff can be found HERE.

The Canada Basketball 15U & 17U National Championships will run August 1-6, 2022, and feature teams representing each of the ten provinces across Canada.  The 15U and 17U boys competitions will be held in Edmonton, AB, while the 15U and 17U girls' tournaments will be hosted in Sherbrooke, QC.  The 18U teams will represent Manitoba at the 2022 Canada Games in Niagra Falls, ON also in early August.

The teams will be selected from the open tryouts and any Manitoba resident who is in one of the defined age categories is eligible and welcome to try out. Once the teams are chosen, the female teams will train and compete together through June and July and participate in their respective National Championship.

    SPECIAL TRYOUT NOTES

    Age Advancement
In the fall of 2008, the Basketball Manitoba Board of Directors passed a motion permitting a player of a younger age the option to play an age up for a Provincial Team.  Any younger age athlete who wishes to try out for an older age program is welcome to do so.  A decision can be made by the older coaching staff and Selection Committee after the first session if the younger athlete will continue with the older tryouts or will be asked to return to the younger tryouts.  Any athlete looking to try out at an older age must contact Dan Becker first.

    Provincial Team Selection Policy
Effective April 1, 2012, the Basketball Manitoba Board of Directors passed a motion on a new Provincial Team Selection Policy. As part of our commitment to providing a transparent and equitable Provincial Team selection procedure, there is a need for a consistent policy to protect the integrity of the Provincial Team program and its coaches.  Under this new approach, Basketball Manitoba will strive to produce a competitive program that stays true to the Long Term Athletic Development Model.  Read more...

Team Commitment In June & July & National Championships
Basketball Manitoba has moved the Provincial Team tryouts to occur in late may, avoiding much of the club basketball season.  Athletes selected on one of the Manitoba Provincial Teams will be expected to give a full commitment to the program for all practices, training sessions and competitions.  If you have any questions, please contact Dan Becker.
