We had a great time hosting the first annual Manitoba High School 3x3 Basketball Championships today at the Sport Manitoba Courts!  Congratulations to the 6 division champions and our top shooters!  Thanks to the 45 teams who joined us today for a full day of hoops.   Events like this don’t happen without volunteers.  Thank you to all our volunteers from Linden Christian, Selkirk, Dakota and Maples Schools!

Special thanks and recognition goes to Colten Gryba of Linden Christian School for devising the concept of this event and being the lead person in making it happen. The planning committee included Colten along with Megan Noonan and Mia Hildebrandt from the Winnipeg Sea Bears, Amanda Hallson from Selkirk, Eric Sung from Dakota, Scott Kirkpatrick from Maples and Tiara Licsi, Randy Kusano and Adam Wedlake from Basketball Manitoba.  Boston Pizza took care of our referees and volunteers and are a great supporter of Basketball Manitoba events.

We will be back again next year!

In partnership with the Winnipeg Sea Bears, Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce details of the newly created 2024 Manitoba High School 3x3 Championships! The event will occur on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the Sport Manitoba Courts (aka Canada Games Sport for Life Centre). It will be open to high school basketball teams from around Manitoba at the AAAA, AAA, and A/AA classification levels.

Some points of emphasis and local modifications include…

  • All regular rules of basketball are in effect, including all violations such as travelling, double dribble, carry ball, out-of-bounds, fouls, technical fouls and so on.

  • The play remains ‘live’ after every score.  NO checking of the ball is performed after made baskets, including made free throws.

  • Games are played to 21 points or 20 minutes running time, whichever occurs first.

  • There are NO timeouts granted during the game.  The clock will also continue to run if there are injuries.

  • The possession of each game will be determined by a coin toss or rock/paper/scissors between the two team captains.  The winner of the coin toss will decide to begin the game with possession of the ball or in a potential overtime.

  • Shots made inside the arc are worth 1 point, shots made outside the arc are worth 2 points, and all free throws are worth 1 point.

  • All violations, out-of-bounds and non-shooting fouls will result in the ball being ‘checked’ at the top of the arc by the opposing team.

  • On every change of possession, including made baskets, the ball needs to be ‘cleared’ past the 2-point arc. A player must have neither feet placed on or inside the arc for the ball to be considered “cleared.”    Missed shots need to be “cleared’ by the defense outside the 2-point arc.

  • A penalty of 2 free throws will be awarded at the 7, 8, and 9 team foul, and two free throws and possession of the ball will occur on the 10th and subsequent team foul per game.

  • The referee will manage a virtual 30-second shot clock in all divisions.

  • If overtime is required after regulation time expires, the team that scores the first 2 points will win the game. The team that did not begin the game in possession of the ball will be awarded overtime possession.

  • Defaulted games will be scored 21-0 in favour of the non-defaulting team.

  • Once a team's first game begins, it cannot add or change its roster with new players. This includes issues tied to injuries.

  • VERY IMPORTANT: Teams are to provide their own school uniforms and warm-up basketballs. Teams should come with both light and dark versions of their uniforms. Numbers are not needed on jerseys. Basketball Manitoba will provide the Wilson 3x3 basketball for all games.
