Winnipeg's Ben Miller has announced he has signed a professional basketball contract to play in Ireland this coming season.  This will mark his 3rd year in the pro ranks after his rookie year in Armenia during the 2019-20 season.  He had signed with the St. Pauls Killarney last season but it was cut short due to the global pandemic.  The basketball club competes in Division 1 of the Irish Pro League. 

Ben was a 5-year member of the Acadia Axemen where he was honoured many of those years by the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) as a conference All-Star including being named to the CIS All-Rookie Team in 2015.  Ben donned the red and white and represented Team Canada on the National Junior Team in the summer of 2014.  

Prior to leaving for the east coast, Ben was named a 2-time Manitoba AAA Player of the Year in 2013 and 2014 by Basketball Manitoba for his outstanding years at Westgate Collegiate.  He was a long-time member of the Manitoba Provincial Team Program which included representing Manitoba at the 2013 Canada Games in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

TORONTO, ON – Canada Basketball’s Men’s High Performance has announced the 19 athletes who have been invited to the June 6-10 U19 Men’s National Team training camp in preparation for U19 FIBA World Championships in Heraklion, Greece. The invite list includes Manitoba's Ben Miller who was a member of the team last summer that brought home a Silver Medal at the FIBA Americas World Qualifier.  Ben returns to the training camp after a successful rookie year at Acadia University.  University of Manitoba Men's Basketball Coach Kirby Schepp is also back with the team as an assistant coach.  Additionally, Bison Team manager Hudson Isaak will also get an opportunity to be with the team in training camp.  The camp will take place at Humber College – North Campus.

Congratulations go out to Winnipeg's Ben Miller of Acadia University who has been named the 2014-15 Atlantic University Conference Rookie of the Year!  Miller averaged 9 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists in his 20 conference AUS games this season. He will be next preparing to represent Canada this summer at the FIBA World Junior Championships.

Basketball Manitoba is pleased to share the news that Manitoba athletes Ben Miller & Emily Potter have recently received Athlete Assistance Grants from Sport Manitoba in recognition of their involvement with Team Canada this past summer.  Manitoba athletes striving to pursue excellence at the highest level of national and international competition are eligible to receive Athlete Assistance funding.  The support is based on their performance and their present status as a member of a National Team program.

Both athletes will be involved with the National Team program again this summer at international events.

A historic run to the FIBA Americas U18 Championship game ended in disappointment as Canada Junior Men’s National Team settled for a silver medal in the wake of a 113-79 loss to Team USA.  The tournament’s top-scorers, Dillon Brooks and Montaque Gill-Caesar met expectations by filling the basket, scoring 27 and 22 points, respectively. Captain Chris Egi added to the high-scoring duo with a big night of his own, totalling an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double.






Canada started slow off the tip-off, allowing their rivals from the United States to build an early 18-6 lead. Rather than lose hope, Canada fought back to finish the first quarter on a 9-3 run, then threatened to take the lead early in the second quarter.

The moment was not lost on Team Canada – no matter the result, this game would represent the highest finish ever by a Canadian team in this tournament. The excitement was palatable on the floor as Canada sought to dethrone an American opponent that had defeated teams to the tune of 98, 54, 54 and 34 points leading up to the final game.

At times, the excitement may have manifested itself adversely with head coach Roy Rana’s young squad; while combining to score 67 of their team’s points, the trio of Brooks, Gill-Caesar and Egi also combined for 19 turnovers. The frequent turnovers derailed the second-quarter comeback attempt, allowing Team USA to score 30 points off of the miscues.

To their credit, Team USA provided a balanced attack on offence, with five players finishing in double-digit figures and eight players scoring eight or more points. The Americans were led by a 20-point, ten-rebound night by Justice Winslow.

Team Canada will now look ahead to the FIBA U19 World Championships in 2015.

Basketball Manitoba is very happy to share the news that Manitoba's Ben Miller has been named to the Canadian Junior National Team!  Miller has spent the last week at the National ID Camp and now goes on with the team to represent Canada at the U18 FIBA Americas Championships June 20-24 in Colorado.  The team will be working to qualify for the FIBA World Junior Championships in 2015.  He will join fellow Manitoban Kirby Schepp who is an assistant coach with the team.
Ben is coming off an outstanding high school basketball season where he was named the AAA Boys Player of the Year while leading Westgate to the AAA Boys Provincial Crown in March.  Last summer he guided Manitoba to a Silver Medal at the Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Last month, Ben committed to attend Acadia University this fall in Nova Scotia.

Canada will compete in the U18 FIBA Americas Championship

Toronto, Ont. – Canada Basketball is pleased to announce the Junior Men’s National Team (JMNT) roster that will represent Team Canada at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Men in Colorado Springs.
“We’re pleased with the progress the team has made over the course of the training camp,” said head coach Roy Rana. “These athletes have shown outstanding work ethic and commitment to the team to solidify their spots on our final roster.” 
Canada will begin group play in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship on Friday, June 20 against Brazil.
“For many of these athletes, this is their first time representing Canada in international competition,” said Rowan Barrett, Executive Vice President/Assistant General Manager, Men’s High Performance. “This will be a tremendous opportunity for growth and development, with the goal of qualifying for the 2015 U19 World Championships in Greece.”

Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce that Winnipeg's Ben Miller is off this weekend to attend the Canadian U18 Junior National Team tryouts in Toronto.  Team Canada will compete in the U18 FIBA Americas Championship in Colorado Springs, U.S.A. The tournament runs from June 20 to June 24.

Ben is coming off an outstanding high school basketball season where he was named the AAA Boys Player of the Year while leading Westgate to the AAA Boys Provincial Crown in March.  Last summer he guided Manitoba to a Silver Medal at the Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

Last month, Ben committed to attend Acadia University this fall in Nova Scotia.
