The "100 Basketballs" event that ran this past Sunday at the Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre saw over 150 basketballs and basketball shoes donated to area children in the West End, many of which came via the Basketball Manitoba Equipment Recycling program.  

 It was a great show of community partnerships which was capped off by a friendly exhibition game between the Indigenous and newcomer community. Basketball Manitoba would like to thank Lenard Monkman of the Aboriginal Youth Opportunities program and Constable Marnie Minkus of the Winnipeg Police Service along with all the other volunteers that helped make the day a success!

REMINDER: The 3rd annual "100 Basketballs" event will be returning to Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre at 430 Langside Street on Sunday August 27, 2017 from 12:00 - 4:00 pm.  The event is an annual campaign and family fun day in Winnipeg's inner city intended to provide kids with basketballs and equipment.  It will feature a barbecue, basketball tournament and music and is supported by Aboriginal Youth Opportunities, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Winnipeg, Red Rising Magazine, Basketball Manitoba, Spence Neighborhood Association, IRCOM and the Winnipeg Police.

The annual '100 Basketballs' event tripled its goal of distributing over 300 basketballs to inner-city children living in Winnipeg at their event this past Sunday at Turtle Island Community Centre.  The day included a 3on3 basketball tournament, All-Star Game, music, crafts and community barbecue.  The event was attended by Point Douglas MLA and long time basketball supporter Kevin Chief (pictured above in the blue jersey).

The organizers would like to thank all their sponsors including Aboriginal Youth Opportunities, Manitoba Building Trades, Basketball Manitoba, City of Winnipeg and TD Canada Trust.

Basketball Manitoba would like that thank and acknowledge the event organizer, Lenard Monkman (pictured on the microphone above) for all his tireless dedication in coordinating this annual event!

The 2nd annual 100 Basketballs event is coming to Winnipeg's North End on Sunday June 26 at 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Turtle Island Community Center.  The day will feature an outdoor basketball game involving players from the Aboriginal Youth Opportunities (AYO).  The event is planned to provide a way to get over 100 new basketballs in the hands of area children and work towards engaging more in the community to get actively involved with the sport.  The day will feature a 3on3 basketball tournament (ages 8-17), community barbecue, entertainment and more!

Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce that the the TD Canada Trust located at the Tyndall Market Shopping Centre located at the corner of Keewatin and Burrows in Winnipeg has made a generous donation of $1000 to the '100 Basketballs' project!  Pictured to the left is Basketball Manitoba's Adam Wedlake, Lenard Monkman and Glen Ominski of TD Canada Trust.

The 100 Basketballs event is coming to Winnipeg's North End on Saturday May 31.  The day will feature an outdoor basketball game involving the Neechi Common All-Stars and the Winnipeg Police.  Police Chief Devon Clunis and MLA Kevin Chief will be on hand.  The event is planned to provide a way to get over 100 new basketballs in the hands of area children and work towards engaging more in the community to get actively involved with the sport.
