The Carl Ridd Award annually recognizes one graduating male and one graduating female basketball player who excels on the basketball court and in the classroom and is heavily involved in the community. Basketball Manitoba will recognize this achievement with a $500.00 scholarship to a male and a female recipient to be used towards a recognized post-secondary institution the following year.

On November 20, 2024, the Manitoba basketball community learned of the devastating news of the passing of Winnipeg Sea Bear captain Chad Posthumus. As his passing is still being felt in the community, Basketball Manitoba and the Winnipeg Sea Bears have partnered to present a new award in Chad’s memory. The Chad Posthumus Award provides two $1500 scholarships recognizing Grade 12 basketball players in Manitoba who demonstrate basketball excellence, resilience in overcoming adversity, academic dedication, and kindness to others. This award is to be used as financial assistance towards a post-secondary education for the upcoming school year.

The Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association, in partnership with Basketball Manitoba, is proud to recognize one outstanding male and one outstanding female grade 12 student who best meet the standards Ron Meyers set as a leader in the community. The MSSA will recognize this achievement with a $500.00 scholarship to a male and a female recipient to be used towards a recognized post-secondary institution the following year.
Male Ron Meyers Leadership Award:

Female Ron Meyers Leadership Award:

The Donovan Gayle Scholarship of $500.00 each recognizes two local basketball players who best represent Donovan’s attributes of strength, resilience, positive attitude and perseverance. The award comes as proceeds from the Balling for the Cure basketball tournaments held in the past. This award will be used as financial assistance towards post-secondary education for the upcoming school year.
- Male: Udochukwu Okolue, Springs Christian Academy
- Female: Jacintha Muir, Sanford Collegiate
The Larry Marquardson Memorial Basketball Award in Larry’s memory recognizes a Grade 12 female basketball player who exemplifies hard work, sportsmanship, and community spirit, maintains a 70% or higher academic average and is pursuing post-secondary education. This award is to be used as financial assistance towards a post-secondary education for the upcoming school year.
- Keane Sarmiento, Sisler High School
The family of Matt Jonsson and Sturgeon Heights Collegiate proudly presents the "Matt’s Assist Scholarship," created in memory of Matt, who passed away in 2021. This scholarship honours his perseverance, leadership, and commitment by recognizing one male and one female high school basketball player who exemplify these qualities on and off the court.

This $1000.00 scholarship is sponsored by retired MHSAA Executive Director Morris Glimcher and is presented annually to a student manager from the basketball community. The scholarship has been presented by the MHSAA since 1998 and will now join the other awards and recognitions that Basketball Manitoba presents annually. Morris retired from the MHSAA after over 40 years as its Executive Director in 2016 and was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
The award recognizes a student manager on a varsity high school basketball team in Manitoba who is currently in grade 12 and has a minimum average grade of 65%.
- Maya Ilagan, Sisler High School
The Jim Bulloch Coaching Award annually recognizes a basketball coach and provides financial support to upgrade their knowledge and expertise in basketball, which will directly impact player and program development, including sponsorship of a coaching clinic outside of Manitoba.
- Erik Rogalka, Hapnot Collegiate Institute
The Irv Hanec Coaching Award annually recognizes a basketball coach and provides financial support to upgrade his or her knowledge and expertise in basketball, directly impacting player and program development. The award includes sponsorship for a coaching clinic outside of Manitoba.
- Binyam Zerihun, J.H. Bruns Collegiate
The Dennis Wilson Coaching Award recognizes one Grade 12 basketball player in Manitoba (male or female) who is pursuing a post-secondary Education degree and demonstrates a dedication to development, aspirations to coach, leadership and community involvement.
- Luca Chiappetta, Grant Park High School
The Lena Wenke Courage Award has been developed to recognize an individual who has overcome several obstacles and challenges while staying involved in basketball. The award is named after its first recipient, Lena Wenke, and will be presented in future years, carrying her name indefinitely.
- Martha Lado, Kildonan East Collegiate
The Mike Spack Lifetime Achievement Award annually recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the growth and development of basketball in Manitoba over a sustained period.
