The University of Manitoba Bisons women’s basketball program has announced the commitment of one of Manitoba’s top emerging talents, with 6-foot-1 forward Emilie Mclean set to join the Herd for the 2026–27 U SPORTS season.
A product of the Dakota Lancers high school program, Mclean has established herself as one of the province’s most complete frontcourt players. She captured a junior varsity provincial championship with Dakota, earned MHSAA provincial all-star honours, and represented Manitoba at the provincial team level.
Ranked No. 7 in Manitoba during her Grade 11 season, Mclean played a key role on a Dakota varsity squad that reached the provincial final for a fourth consecutive year. Her provincial playoff performances stood out, including a dominant semi-final showing with 24 points, 18 rebounds, and 10 blocks. She followed that with a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds in the provincial final, earning all-star recognition.
Bisons head coach Michele Sung highlighted Mclean’s physical tools and approach to the game as strong fits for the program.
“She is a great athlete with the work ethic and determination to play at the top level in U SPORTS,” said Sung. “Her size and mobility add depth inside for us, and she fits our style of play well. Emilie is eager to be in the gym every day, work hard, and learn from her coaches and teammates, which makes her a natural fit for our culture.”
Beyond basketball, Mclean is a multi-sport standout with experience in volleyball, cross-country, and handball. She is an alum of the Evolve and Junior Bisons programs, is on the Canada Basketball watch list, and maintains an academic average above 85 percent.
“I am beyond excited to announce my commitment to the Bisons women’s basketball team,” said Mclean. “I look forward to continuing both my athletic and academic journey as a Bison. This has been a long-time goal, and I’m grateful to my family, friends, teammates, and coaches who have supported me throughout the process.”
