Basketball season is fast approaching, and registration for the upcoming season will open on August 1, 2025. With the season just around the corner, all officials need to stay informed and plan for this year’s mandatory clinics. To ensure a smooth experience and help you secure your preferred time slot, we recommend registering early.
This year, MABO is introducing changes to the clinic format to support its growing and evolving membership better. As more new officials join, the standard Senior (SR) clinic, which has remained unchanged for over 20 years, is no longer sufficient. To address this, officials who have been registered with MABO for 5 years or more and typically attend a Winnipeg SR clinic will now need to register for a live online Zoom clinic. This Zoom session will focus on MABO updates, expectations, and plans for the upcoming season. The Zoom SR clinic will be open to any MABO official in Manitoba who has been with the organization for 5 or more years.
For officials who do not qualify for the Zoom clinic, there will be over 120 referees from last season who must attend a half-day, on-court, in-person clinic. These clinics will be offered in both morning and afternoon sessions, with attendance caps in place. If you are unsure which clinic to attend, please contact your local supervisor for guidance.
The clinic dates and locations are as follows:
In-Person Clinics (Half-Day):
Saturday, October 4: Morning session at Norberry-Glenlee Community Centre, 8:30 AM
Saturday, October 4: Afternoon session at Norberry-Glenlee Community Centre, 12:30 PM
Saturday, November 15: Morning session at Robert A. Steen Community Centre, 8:30 AM
Saturday, November 15: Afternoon session at Robert A. Steen Community Centre, 12:30 PM
Robert A. Steen Community Centre is located at 980 Palmerston Avenue, Winnipeg.
Live Zoom Clinic:
Saturday, October 18: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Sunday, November 16: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
In addition to the changes to the clinic format, MABO is transitioning to the Canadian-based RAMP online data management system, which is already utilized by Canada Basketball and the Canadian Basketball Officials Commission (CBOC). This move will enable MABO to streamline its data management, registration, and communication processes, providing a unified and consistent system for officials that is used nationwide. This unification of systems ensures that all basketball organizations, from grassroots to high-performance levels, will have access to the same user-friendly platform, improving efficiency and communication within the sport. Officials will benefit from a more modern, centralized system that aligns with national standards and practices. This same system is also being used by the WMBA and Peg City, with more local organizations moving to it in the near future.
For officials in Winnipeg, please register for either the Zoom clinic (if eligible) or an in-person clinic. Clinics outside of Winnipeg will run as usual. If you meet the Zoom eligibility and are from out of town, you may still register for the Zoom session.
Note that there will be no recorded clinic option this year, and SR clinic dates for Brandon and Portage will be announced soon.
If you are unsure about which clinic to attend or have any questions, please reach out to your local supervisor. We are here to support you.
Registration will open August 1, 2025 on this page.
