Basketball Manitoba would like to extend its thanks and acknowledge Sean Close's contributions as he bids adieu to his role as Executive Director of the Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association (WMBA) after six years. Sean’s departure marks the end of an era, but his impact on our basketball community will be felt for many years.  Sean is departing the WMBA to focus full-time on Peg City Basketball activities.

Throughout his tenure, Sean’s commitment to youth basketball went far beyond the confines of a job description. He tirelessly poured countless hours into the growth of basketball in the city, often sacrificing weekends and evenings. His dedication was evident in every facet of the organization.  From sorting and delivering jerseys to community centres in the evenings, setting up hoops and courts on weekends, to designing championship t-shirts into the wee hours of the morning.

Sean's influence was pivotal in the growth of the WMBA. His work ethic knew no bounds—scheduling games, setting up the registration system, leading convenor meetings, coordinating player transfers, answering emails from coaches and families, and even fielding weekend calls from parents seeking directions to courts. His unwavering belief that a rising tide lifts all boats resonated throughout the league, fostering inclusivity and support for all basketball programming in the city.

His mantra, "There can never be too much basketball!" led to significant achievements, such as growing the Jr. NBA and building the largest program in Western Canada. This dedication culminated in the WMBA being awarded the privilege of piloting the Jr. NBA Draft League in Winnipeg this past Spring.  As Sean transitions from his role with the WMBA, he will continue to influence the basketball community through Peg City Basketball, focusing on adult and youth programming. While his departure leaves a void, we take solace in knowing his passion for basketball will continue to shine.

We thank Sean for his six years of leadership, dedication, and passion for the game. Basketball Manitoba wishes him all the best with this new chapter and Peg City Basketball's future success!
