Basketball Manitoba has announced that it is now accepting applications for the 2024 Manitoba Provincial Team Program for the 15U and 17U male and female age groups coaching positions and for the 2024 Manitoba Games 16U male and female regional teams coaching positions.  

The deadline for all coaching applications is Friday, December 1, 2023, at 5:00 pm.

Basketball Manitoba annually runs provincial teams to provide elite athletes with a unique opportunity to develop skills through high-quality summer practices and a challenging competition schedule.  Coaches can either apply as a 'team' or individually.

Applications for the 15U teams are for a 1-year (2024 summer) commitment, and the 17U Provincial Teams will be a two-year commitment heading into the 2025 Canada Games.  The successful candidates will be the coaching staff for the 2024 Canada Basketball National Championships scheduled for Ontario and St. John's, NL, in early August 2024.

  • Head Coach and Assistant Coach (players born in 2009 or later)
15U Male Provincial Team (1-year appointment)
  • Head Coach and Assistant Coach (players born in 2009 or later)
    17U Female Provincial Team (2-year appointment) - Canada Games Team
    • Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Manager (players born in 2007 & 2008)
    17U Male Provincial Team (2-year appointment) - Canada Games Team
    • Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Manager (players born in 2007 & 2008)

      PROVINCIAL TEAM MODEL FOR 2024: 

      Program Overview
      • All tryouts for the 15U & 17U programs will be held in late May 2024.  A pre-tryout identification camp will be hosted in Brandon, and another location will still be determined in April 2024.  
      • Up to 15 players per age group will be selected for training in June.
      • The program will compete in the Prairie Cup on June 29-30 long weekend against the Saskatchewan provincial teams.  
      • A 12-person roster and the coaching staff to represent Manitoba at the National Championships.  
      • There will be local training and exhibition games in July.
      • Additional details on the program will be announced later this winter.  
      Coaching Criteria - as set by Canada Basketball, successful candidates will have the opportunity and support of Basketball Manitoba to complete their coaching courses and certification.


      15U & 17U Male and Female Teams

      1. Head Coach = NCCP Train to Compete Certified by year 3 of their involvement in the program (must be "in-training" in year 1, "trained" by year 2 and "certified" by year 3) AND a minimum of 5 years of experience as a basketball head coach or equivalent experience.
      2. Assistant Coach NCCP Train to Compete Certified by year 3 of their involvement in the program (must be "in-training" in year 1, "trained" by year 2 and "certified" by year 3) AND a minimum of 5 years of experience as a basketball head coach or equivalent experience.  AND a minimum of 3 years of experience as a basketball head or assistant coach or equivalent experience.
      3. Manager = No NCCP Certification is required (17U teams only)

      Other Notes: 
      • Coaches can either apply as a 'team' or individually as a head coach, assistant coach or manager to be partnered up with other successful candidates.  Basketball Manitoba recommends coaches apply as a "team of coaches."   
      • Male Head Coaches of female teams must have a female Assistant Coach or Manager, and female Head Coaches of male teams must have a male Assistant Coach or Manager. 
      • All selected coaches must complete the new Sport Manitoba Respect in Sport online program by May 1 or sooner.  Coaches who completed the RIS program before 2019 must meet the updated program.  
      • All coaches must complete the Safe Sport online training administered under the Coaching Association of Canada.
      • All selected coaches will undergo a Canadian Police Records Check as part of the hiring process.
      • Basketball Manitoba will provide the successful coaches in the program with the required levels of NCCP certification to meet the Canada Basketball National Championships requirements.

      Application for Consideration
      • Please submit a cover letter and coaching resume by Friday, December 1, 2023, at 5:00 pm by completing the application form below.  A good coaching resume should include your previous coaching experience, work experience, and education.  

      Please note that the selection of successful candidates will not necessarily be limited to
      those who apply.  Interviews will take place in late December and early January.  We thank all the interested applicants; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
