The Junior Bobcats club basketball program is a Brandon University affiliated basketball program for young females.  Junior Bobcats is an intense, competitive and fun spring basketball program. Participants will train at a high level and play in multiple tournaments and games.

Try-outs will be on the following days. Please note the locations:

  • Monday, March 18, 2019 – 4:30pm-7pm (U14 (2005) & U15 (2004)) at Henry Champ Gym in the Healthy Living Centre
  • Wednesday March 20 2019 – 6:00pm-8:30pm (U16 (2003) & U17 (2002)) at Ecole Harrison.
  • Try-out cost: $20 + GST (applies to participants 16 years and older).

Junior Bobcats 2019 age categories:

  • 17U (17 and under born in 2002)
  • 16U (16 and under born in 2003)
  • 15U (15 and under born in 2004)
  • 14U (14 and under born in 2005)

Note: The number of teams and age groupings may change. For example, we may have a U16 team rather than a U15 team (but it would be comprised of players from both age groups). Ultimately, sufficient numbers and being able to field a competitive team will determine the number of teams and age groupings. 

2019 Training and Competition schedule:

  • Training Schedule: Exact dates and times will be based on team composition. Teams that have players from outside of Brandon, will likely have more evening and weekend practices. Potential dates (subject to change):
    • March – Club tune-up sessions March 25, 27, 29 1:00pm-3:30pm 
    • April 10, 12, 14, 15, 17, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 29, 30
    • May 1, 3, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21 (if necessary.), 22 (if necessary.)
  • Note: 2-3 practices per week. Practices will be 1.5-2 hours in length. Practice times will be circulated once the teams have been selected.
  • Competition Schedule (subject to change): 
    • April 26-28 2019 – Junior Bobcats Jamboree at the Healthy Living Centre 
    • May 10-12 – Manitoba Club Championships – Winnipeg
    • May 17-19 – Regina Hornets Tournament – Regina 
  • Other exhibition game and scrimmages may be added to the competition schedule.
  • Note: Additional tournaments and exhibition games may be added to the schedule


  • The projected cost this year is $325 + GST. Fee includes apparel (jersey, shorts, shooting top), training fee, gym fees, competition fees & insurance. 
  • This total does not include additional costs such as accommodations, food and transportation when travelling.

Playing Time:
The purpose of the Junior Bobcats program is to provide youth in the region with an opportunity to develop their skills in a competitive atmosphere. Playing time will be granted to those who demonstrate the following (in no particular order): great work ethic; great attitude; commitment to practices; an understanding of team concepts; and the ability to apply team concepts.
