NCAA Legend Don Meyer Featured at Mayville State Coaches Clinic in June 2011

Mayville State University has announced that it will host legendary NCAA basketball coach Don Meyer at a 2 day coaches clinic on June 3-4, 2011 in Mayville, North Dakota.  Don Meyer is currently the winningest coach in any division in NCAA history. In February 2010 Meyer announced his retirement from coaching, but continues at NSU in the role of Regents Distinguished Professor and Assistant to the President.  In July he was named the winner of the Jimmy V. Perseverance award at the ESPN ESPY's. Meyer used his national spotlight to again promote the community he calls home, Northern State University and Aberdeen, SD.  In April, Meyer was recognized at the NCAA Final Four as the recipient of the Coach Wooden “Keys to Life” award.  For full details on the clinic inducing a registration form...

 

 

Don Meyer is a retired American  college basketball coach who completed his career in 2010 as head coach of the men's team at Northern State University.  He previously was head coach at Hamline University and Lipscomb University.



Meyer is currently the winningest men's basketball coach whose career has included at least one stint with an NCAA member school. His career win total includes stints as a NAIA coach. Meyer is not the winningest men's coach in NCAA wins; that honor belongs to Philadelphia University's Herb Magee. Meyer further trails NAIA men's coach Harry Statham and Tennessee Lady Volunteers basketball coach Pat Summitt in career wins. Coach Meyer is the subject of the book, "Playing for Coach Meyer" written by Steve Smiley, who played for Meyer as point guard from 1999-2004, and who served as an assistant coach from 2006-2008. Additionally, Meyer will also be the subject of a more extensive biography currently being written by ESPN baseball analyst Buster Olney. Mr. Olney and Coach Meyer have had close relationship since Olney was assigned to cover baseball in Nashville while Meyer was coaching and Limpscomb.
