Basketball Manitoba is excited to announce that both Kirby Schepp and Cheryl Jean-Paul have been hired as its new 'Provincial High Performance Coaches' for the next two years!  This is hiring brings on Cheryl to the HP Coach ranks for the first time to join Kirby who has held the lone position since April 2007.  This change will see Kirby manage all aspects of  Basketball Manitoba's High Performance and coaching endeavors on the male side of the sport and Cheryl in the same role on the female side.  The HP aspects include that as respective head coaches with Manitoba's Canada Games teams, heading the Centre for Performance Program, supporting the Regional Training Centres and creating new and innovative coaching support systems for all coaches.  Over the past year, this position has produced coaching supports such as the...

Kirby Schepp


Kirby Schepp has been an active basketball coach since 1994 and is currently coaching and teaching phys ed at Sturgeon
Heights Collegiate in Winnipeg.  He continues his role as the Head
Coach of Canada Basketball’s CP Prairie Region Boy's Program (involved since 2001) and is
Basketball Manitoba's most active NCCP Course Conductor (Levels 1-3).
He is also very involved in the redevelopment of the NCCP model at the
national level and is one of Manitoba's few Master Learning Facilitators.  His past experience with basketball coaching has been
that of President of the MBCA, university assistant coach and
university athlete at the University of Winnipeg


Kirby was also named both the AAAA Boys Coach of the Year
AND the Coaching Manitoba School System Coach of the Year in 2007.


His new term officially begins with Basketball Manitoba on April 1, 2008.





Cheryl Jean-Paul Cheryl Jean-Paul’s basketball history includes playing five years
of university basketball for the University of Manitoba, head coaching
at the junior varsity level at River East Collegiate where they won 3
conference championships in a row, and assistant coaching at the U of
M. As a basketball official Cheryl has also refereed at the provincial
championship level as well as at the national level for the 15U
girls’ championships.


Currently Cheryl is the head coach at Red River College, one of the
coaches for Basketball Canada’s Centre for Performance program and is also be involved with the Todd MacCulloch Hoop School.


She began coaching in 1999 at the regional / district,
high school, club and university levels, Cheryl is a Level 3 NCCP
certified coach and was recently awarded the Jim Bulloch award by the
Manitoba Basketball Coaches Association.


Her new term officially begins with Basketball Manitoba on April 1, 2008.





Future initiatives of the HP positions include the Canada Games / Provincial Team Program, Centre for Performance program along with more 'Live Drills', more 'All-Star Skills Videos' and New Coach clinics among other ideas still in the works!
