The sport of basketball has been voted the 21st most important Canadian invention of all time according to a CBC special featuring the top 50 Canadian inventions.
Basketball joins other important inventions including the development of insulin, the telephone and the lightbulb. It is a sport that rivals the largest sport in the world (soccer) for participation, with nearly 400 million people playing - or 1 in 12 people.
