The Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) and the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS), in their continued efforts to advance women in sport in Canada, are leading a project to create a sustainable mentorship model for female coaches. This opportunity is supported through Status of Women Canada, a department of the Federal Government of Canada.  The mentorship model will build on recommendations from previous initiatives and explore new information and promising practices. The female focused model of mentorship will develop and provide tools and resources that allow sport organizations to change / enhance the way they work with and support female coaches at all levels.

Project details:  The initial pilot project will target a small group of female coaches who have been identified by their NSO and have the desire to move to a more advanced coaching role. The coaches will be paired with a mentor(s) and a mentoring plan will be developed to foster the coaches’ skill set. The uniqueness of this proposed model is it will focus on enhancing the skill set of the mentors to ensure they have the capacity and capability to be an effective mentor with the coach.
