The Brandon University Bobcats men's basketball team has announced the commitment of the addition of college all-star Chris Stanhope.

Stanhope is a 6-foot-3 guard from Markham, Ont. who transfers to BU after earning a Recreation and Leisure Services diploma from Fanshawe College where he also led the Falcons in scoring this past season (17.3 ppg) and finished second the previous season (12.0 ppg).

This past season, Stanhope was named an Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) West Division First-Team All-Star.

Stanhope's ability to score and his experience at the college level make him an exceptional addition to the Bobcats' roster.

"We are excited to be able to add Chris to our program. He is an exceptional athlete who will be able to step in and be a contributor for us right away," says Bobcats coach Gil Cheung.

"He is a versatile scorer and is able to defend multiple positions on the defensive end. We love what he can add to our transition game, and is capable of scoring in bunches. He is someone that we have been recruiting for some time now, and we feel that Brandon University is the perfect fit for Chris both on and off the court," Cheung adds.

The opportunity to head west and play in the Canada West conference is an opportunity Stanhope looks forward to.

"I chose Brandon because I feel like this is the best opportunity for me to grow as a basketball player and more importantly as a person," says Stanhope. "I feel that this experience is going to be a great stepping stone for me in the right direction towards my future. I'm looking forward to playing for coach Cheung and helping teammates as we turn the corner with this program."

Stanhope enters his fourth year of eligibility after playing the past two seasons with Fanshawe and playing his freshman season with Cape Breton University.

Stanhope plans to study in BU's Bachelor of Physical Education Studies program.
