The 6'9", 220-pound playmaker most recently played for St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. He won back-to-back provincial titles with St. Paul's in 2022 and 2023, and was the 2022-23 Basketball Manitoba Player of the Year, among many other accolades.

Today, men's basketball head coach Kirby Schepp made a program-altering announcement, finalizing the commitment of 6'9", 220-pound difference-maker Ramogi Nyagudi. The graduate of St. Paul's adds further talent and play making ability to a veteran roster that advanced to the Canada West Final Four in 2024-25, and didn't graduate a single player. 

Nyagudi most recently played at the NCAA Division 1 level for the St. Thomas Tommies in St. Paul, Minnesota. Prior to that, he donned the red and white, representing Canada at the FIBA U18 Men's AmeriCup in 2024, where Canada defeated the Dominican Republic to secure bronze. Nyagudi averaged 4.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists during the tournament. 

"Ramogi's combination of size, athleticism, overall skills and defensive ability make him an impact player for our program," added Schepp. 

"He will add to a great group of veterans that are ready to win, but he also represents the future of the program at the same time. Ramogi has the potential to be a professional at the highest levels and we can't wait to get to work and helping him reach these levels, while helping this team to be the best they can be."

An All-Canadian selection, Nyagudi was an instrumental piece for a St. Paul's squad that won back-to-back provincial titles in 2022 and 2023, and he was also the 2022-23 Basketball Manitoba Player of the Year. In 2023-24, he had a stellar year at DME Academy, a Wisconsin-based prep school, where he averaged 17 points and nine rebounds in Grade 12. 

"I chose Manitoba because I'm following what God has for me, his path, not anyone else's," said Nyagudi.

"I'm ready to work every day with a great coaching staff and great teammates that I've known for years, to put on for the city and God-willing, to bring a championship back to the crib."

Canada Basketball has announced that three standout athletes from the Manitoba have been invited to attend upcoming Canadian National Team Assessment Camps in Toronto.


Ramogi Nyagudi (Winnipeg) has been named among 47 athletes participating in the U19 Men’s High Performance National Team Assessment Camp, running April 18-21, 2025 at Humber College. Ramogi is an alumni of Team Manitoba, has earned national recognition for his length, athleticism, and ability to impact both ends of the floor. Nyagudi continues to represent the province at the NCAA University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota on the national stage.

Also representing Manitoba at the U16 Men’s High Performance National Team Assessment Camp are Kai Becker (Winnipeg, MB) and Kaj Willms (Rosendale, MB). Both athletes are among 32 players selected to attend the April 18-21 session at Humber College. Both are key contributors to Manitoba’s provincial team program.



These invitations mark another strong step forward in Manitoba’s growing impact on the national basketball scene, with all three athletes having developed through the Basketball Manitoba high performance pathway, including Provincial Teams, Targeted Athlete Programs, and Junior Academy programs.

Basketball Manitoba congratulates Ramogi, Kai, and Kaj on this honour and wishes them continued success as they compete for spots on Canada’s national teams.

TORONTO, ONT. (June 2, 2024) –Canada Basketball announced Sunday the U18 Men’s National Team roster for the upcoming FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup 2024.  The roster includes Manitoba's Ramogi Nyagudi.  

The FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup 2024 will be held June 3-9 at the Estadio Obras Sanitarias in Buenos Aires, Argentina. 

Canada is in Group A, along with Dominican Republic (June 3, 2:10p.m. E.T.), Puerto Rico (June 4, 11:40 a.m. E.T.) and Venezuela (June 5, 11:40a.m. E.T.).


Canada will look to improve on their last showing at the U18 tournament, where the red and white captured bronze behind an 81-57 win over this year’s hosts Argentina.

7-foot-7 center Olivier Rioux makes his fourth straight age group team with Canada, most recently competing with the U19 men’s national team last summer that placed seventh overall.

Rioux, alongside Jaion Pitt – who previously competed with the U17 (2022)and U19 (2023) national teams – will be looked at early and often for their experience on the international stage.

Head Coach Ramón Díaz will make his Canadian national team coaching debut at the tournament, joined by Nathan Grant who previously coached at both this age group in 2022 and the U19 national team last summer, as well as Charles Hantoumakos, and former senior national team player, Kyle Landry.

The top four teams from the FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup 2024 will qualify for the FIBA U19 Men’s Basketball World Cup 2025.

Canada is currently ranked 9th overall in the FIBA men’s age-group rankings, presented by Nike.

‍TORONTO (May 30, 2024) – Twenty-one of Canada’s top age-group players were selected to attend U18 Men’s National Team training camp ahead of the FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup 2024.  The list includes Manitoba's Ramogi Nyagudi.  

The training camp was held at Humber College’s North Campus Gymnasium from May 22-31.


The FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup 2024 will run June 3-9, 2024, at the Obras Sanitarias Stadium, also known as the "Temple of Rock", in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The field will comprise the top eight teams from across the Americas zone.   All the action will be streaming live on FIBA’s YouTube channel.

The final 12-player roster will be announced on Sunday, June 2 following the technical meeting.

Due to personal reasons or injury, several athletes invited to attend training camp were unable to participate. 

Since 2008, Canada has never finished worse than third at the tournament, and has captured silver in three out of their last four appearances in the event. Canada won bronze in 2022, with an 81-57 victory over Argentina in the third-place game.

Following the FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup 2024 draw, Canada was drawn into Group A and will compete against the Dominican Republic (June 3, 2:10 p.m. ET), Puerto Rico (June 4, 11:40 a.m. ET) and Venezuela (June 5, 11:40 a.m. ET)  in Group Phase action.  All eight teams participating in the event will advance to the quarter-finals, followed by the semifinals and and medal round games to follow.

The top four teams in the event will successfully qualify for next summer’s FIBA U19 Men’s Basketball World Cup 2025.

Players selected to attend training camp were invited to a Canada Basketball Men’s High Performance National Team Age-Group Assessment Camp.

Canada is currently ranked 9th overall in the FIBA World Ranking presented by Nike, following the conclusion of the FIBA 2023 Youth Events.

Congratulations to the four basketball players with Manitoba roots who have been named to the 2024 All-Canadian Games (formerly known as the Biosteel All-Canadian) which takes place March 25-30 in Toronto!  Best wishes go out to Tanah Becker, Izzy Fust, Ramogi Nyagudi and Heidi Smith!

TORONTO, ONT. (June 18, 2022) – Canada Basketball announced Saturday the 20 players invited to attend training camp at Humber College from June 19th-25th ahead of the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022.  The invite list includes Manitoba athlete Ramogi Nyagudi of St. Paul's High School who was identified at an open camp earlier this spring.  Ramogi was announced a member of the Team Manitoba 18U Canada Games team last week that will represent the province in August at the 2022 Canada Games in Niagra Falls, ON.  He was also named to the AAAA Boys All-Manitoba Team as part of the Basketball Manitoba Awards announced in April.  

The FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022 will be held July 2-10, 2022 at the Palacio de Deportes Jose Maria Martin Carpena in Malaga, Spain and fans can catch all the action streaming live on FIBA YouTube.

Coming off a bronze medal at the FIBA U18 Americas Championship 2022 last week, head coach Patrick Tatham is back to lead Canada once again and his U16 coaching staff from last summer remains intact as assistant coaches Jason Dawkins, Charles Hantoumakos and Tarry Upshaw also return.

Canada is in Group A and will face Asia TBC (July 2, 7:15 AM ET), France (July 3, 9:45 AM ET) and Serbia (July 5, 9:45 AM ET).

All teams qualify for the Round of 16, where they will cross between Groups A and B and C and D (A1 v B4, A2 v B3, etc.). The winners of the Round of 16 games advance to the quarter-finals, while the losers move on to the classification games for places 9-16.

The FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022 will be the first U17 age-group event since 2018 when Canada finished fourth.  The FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2020 was cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
