Winnipeg basketball standout Emmanuel Akot is continuing his professional career in Mexico after signing with El Calor de Cancún for the 2026 Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional (LNBP) season.
The Cancún-based club announced the addition of the six-foot-eight Canadian forward as it continues to strengthen its roster with talent, intensity and experience. Akot joins El Calor following the 2026 Canadian Elite Basketball League season with his hometown Winnipeg Sea Bears.
Akot has built a growing professional résumé with stops in Canada, the Netherlands and Poland. Before joining the professional ranks, he played 134 NCAA Division I games over five collegiate seasons with the University of Arizona, Boise State University and Western Kentucky University. He averaged 7.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists during his college career and earned Mountain West Honourable Mention recognition while at Boise State.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Akot played locally for Valley Gardens Middle School, Kildonan East Collegiate and the Winnipeg Wolves Basketball Club before completing his high school career at Wasatch Academy in Utah. He was regarded as a five-star recruit and participated in the 2016 BioSteel All-Canadian Game.
Akot also represented Canada at the 2016 FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup, where he averaged 9.9 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.
The move to Cancún marks the next international chapter for the versatile Manitoba product, who will bring size, playmaking ability and experience to El Calor as the club competes in Mexico’s top professional basketball league.
