Canada Basketball has announced that Winnipeg’s Settimo Yugu has been selected to represent Canada as a member of the Canadian U18 Men’s National Team at the FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup 2026.

The event will take place June 1-7, 2026, in León, Mexico, and will feature the top eight national teams from across the Americas competing for continental honours and qualification opportunities for future international competitions.

Yugu is one of 12 athletes selected from across Canada and internationally based Canadian players to represent the country. His selection follows years of development within the Manitoba basketball system and continued success at the national level.

“Being named to a Canadian national team is one of the highest honours available to a young athlete,” said Adam Wedlake, Executive Director of Basketball Manitoba. “Settimo’s selection reflects his dedication, work ethic, and commitment to improvement over many years. He has proudly represented Manitoba throughout his basketball journey, and we know he will do the same for Canada on the international stage.”

Canada enters the tournament looking to improve upon its bronze-medal finish at the 2024 FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup. The Canadian squad will be led by head coach Charles Hantoumakos and assistant coaches Dave DeAveiro, Murphy Burnatowski, and Kyle Landry.

Canada will compete in Group B and open the tournament against Venezuela on Monday, June 1 before facing the Dominican Republic on Tuesday, June 2 and Puerto Rico on Thursday, June 4

Yugu’s selection continues a long tradition of Manitoba athletes representing Canada at international basketball events. His achievement serves as an inspiration to young players throughout the province and highlights the strength of Manitoba’s athlete development pathway.

The Manitoba basketball community joins family, friends, coaches, teammates, and supporters in congratulating Settimo on this significant accomplishment and wishes him and Team Canada success at the FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup.
