Canada West Recognizes 2025-26 Basketball All-Star and All-Rookie Teams Featuring Manitoba Standouts

Canada West has announced its 2025-26 men's and women's basketball All-Star and All-Rookie team selections, ahead of this weekend's single-elimination semifinals.

The 2025-26 selections include strong Manitoba representation, highlighted by athletes from the University of Winnipeg Wesmen, University of Manitoba Bisons, and Brandon University Bobcats.

University of Winnipeg

Winnipeg Wesmen guard Kato Jaro was named a Canada West Men's Basketball First Team All-Star after helping lead the Wesmen to the Prairie Division lead and the conference's top seed. Jaro also ranked among the conference leaders in assists and free throw percentage.

University of Manitoba

The Manitoba Bisons placed multiple athletes on the Canada West men's recognition lists, including Daren Watts as a Second Team All-Star and Mason Kraus as a Third Team All-Star. On the women's side, rookie Taylor Schepp earned All-Rookie Team honours after an immediate impact season.

Brandon University

Brandon Bobcats forward Sultan Haider Bhatti was named a Canada West Men's Basketball First Team All-Star following a dominant season, finishing among the conference scoring and rebounding leaders. Brandon rookie Munroop Gill was also named to the men's All-Rookie Team.

Manitoba Roots

UBC Thunderbirds guard Olivia Weekes (Winnipeg, Manitoba) earned a place on the Canada West Women's Basketball First Team All-Stars after a standout season that ranked her among the conference's top scorers and rebounders. Regina Cougars guard Lilly Vande Graaf (Winnipeg, Manitoba) was also recognized as a Women's Basketball All-Rookie Team selection, signalling the next wave of Manitoba-developed talent making an impact in Canada West.

Playoffs this weekend

The Canada West basketball semifinals take place this weekend, with the women's semifinals on Friday, February 20 and Saturday, February 21, and the men's semifinals on Friday, February 20 and Saturday, February 21. The conference will announce its major award recipients for basketball on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
