Sport Manitoba has announced that several Manitoba basketball athletes and coaches – including wheelchair basketball – have been selected as recipients of its 2025 academic scholarships. Basketball Manitoba supports and congratulates these individuals for their achievements both on the court and in the classroom.
A total of $24,450 in scholarships was awarded province-wide. Within that amount, five individuals from Manitoba’s basketball community were honoured: three high school basketball athletes, one wheelchair basketball university athlete, and one university-level basketball coach.
High School Basketball Scholarship Recipients
$750 High School Scholarship
• Magnus Carlos, Basketball (Winnipeg) – Graduated from Vincent Massey Collegiate
$500 High School Scholarship
• Tristan Gibbons, Basketball (Winnipeg) – Graduated from Centre-scolaire Léo-Rémillard
• Maya Jorgenson, Basketball/Volleyball (Sanford) – Graduated from Sanford Collegiate
University Basketball Scholarship Recipient
$1,000 University Scholarship
• Bethany Johnson, Wheelchair Basketball (Winnipeg) – University of Illinois
Basketball Coaching Bursary Recipient
Jeff Collins Memorial Winnipeg Coach Award – $500
• Nicholas Vega, Basketball (Winnipeg) – University of Manitoba
Sport Manitoba’s scholarship programme continues to strengthen the development of young Manitobans in sport by supporting academic pathways, coach education, and high-performance preparation.
