Basketball Manitoba thanks the over 230 athletes who participated in two major national identification and development events held this past weekend in Winnipeg.

The Canada Basketball National Team Age Group ID Camps welcomed 81 athletes (29 female and 52 male) born between 2008 and 2010. The camps, hosted at the Sport Manitoba Courts on September 20-21, were led by Canada Basketball’s Michael Meeks, Manager of Youth Player Development, and Jodi Gram, Age Group National Team Coach and Junior Academy Mentor Coach. Athletes were evaluated for potential invitations to the 2026 U17 and U18 National Team training camps.

Running alongside the ID camps, the Canada Basketball Junior Academy Identification Weekend drew 153 athletes (86 male and 67 female) born in 2011, 2012, and 2013. From this group, select athletes will advance to train in Winnipeg over five weekends from September through early December. The Junior Academy offers skill and concept development aligned with the Canadian National Team curriculum, serving as an early-stage pathway for young athletes aspiring to compete at the national level.

Both programs are part of Canada Basketball’s long-term athlete development model, designed to identify and prepare the next generation of national team players while working in partnership with provincial organizations.

Basketball Manitoba would like to thank all athletes, coaches, and families for their involvement in making the weekend a success!
