Basketball Manitoba is communicating to all active basketball clubs in the province when the window of time for tryouts for next year's programs is permitted to begin. As has been the agreement for the past number of years, no tryouts for next year's club programs shall begin before a set date in August, which will be Friday, August 15, 2025. The time restriction will provide an equal starting point for clubs to plan and begin their programs for the next season, allowing for some needed rest and recovery time away from basketball for players, coaches, and families. Clubs can continue their tryouts through August and into September.
2025 CANADA GAMES: A special note for 2025 is that the Canada Summer Games will run August 9-16 and involve Manitoba basketball players in Newfoundland at the ages of 16-17. Clubs are recommended to host their tryouts for these older ages the following week to avoid this conflict. This occurs every 4 years and has caused similar impacts in the past.
2025 CEBL CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND: Another special note is that the CEBL is hosting their Championship Weekend in Winnipeg at the Canada Life Centre on the evenings of Friday, August 22, and Sunday, August 24. There are a number of basketball activities planned that weekend, and clubs should look to avoid that weekend as many in the basketball community will want to be present at these games and activities.
