The University of Winnipeg Wesmen Women's Basketball Program has announced the formation of a new basketball opportunity for females at the 15U and 17U age levels (born 2007 or later).

DESCRIPTION

The Prairie Elite Basketball League (PEBL) is a spring/summer basketball league that features the top U15 and U17 female athletes from across the prairie provinces. Each team in PEBL must be sponsored by an accredited university program. These teams travel and compete in up to 4 tournament weekends, each hosted in a different city. This year, the University of Winnipeg women’s basketball program will pilot a set of Junior Wesmen basketball teams to take part in these events. It is our hope to expand this program over time to offer a more extensive training and competition schedule.

TEAMS

The Wesmen women’s basketball program will host an ID camp in the first week of April. From this ID camp, we will identify 10 female athletes in the 15U age group and 10 female athletes in the 17U age group who will be invited to participate on a Junior Wesmen PEBL team that will travel to the Regina and Calgary PEBL tournament weekends.

Junior Wesmen is an extension of our University of Winnipeg varsity basketball program. All athletes who choose to take part in our Junior Wesmen program will be held to the same high standards of training and behaviour. All athletes and fans are expected to serve as exemplary ambassadors of our program at all times.

Basketball Manitoba Note: As this new program launch is occurring outside of the traditional late summer club tryout time period, players with a commitment to another club or program at this time will be required to complete a Basketball Manitoba Club Team Mutual Agreement Form, which will seek awareness and an agreement of your current club that this added opportunity will fit into your existing club plans.
