WINNIPEG, MB (April 5, 2023) - The Manitoba Aboriginal Sports & Recreation Council (MASRC) is honoured to announce this year's inductees for the Manitoba Indigenous Sports Hall of Fame. The Class of 2023 serves as another example of the countless ways in which Indigenous athletes, coaches, and builders have contributed to the world of sport here in Manitoba.

The following will be inducted as part of the Class of 2023.

Michelle Foreman (Chambers), Métis

Basketball, Athlete Category

Michelle has a long-standing legacy in the basketball community. She was an essential part of the Winnipeg Wesmen national championship basketball teams during the early 1990s, where her skills and leadership helped to lead the team to success. She was named the Most Valuable Player at the 1992-3 CIS National Championships. Her remarkable talent on the court earned her and her team a place in the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame in the team category.

Michelle's passion for basketball has extended beyond her playing career. She has remained actively involved in the basketball community as both a coach and referee, helping to mentor and develop young players. Michelle has also inspired her family to follow in her footsteps, with her husband Jeff also being a member of the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame, and her three sons, Mason, Marcus, and Matthew, all remaining active in the sport at various levels.

Her induction is a testament to her dedication, perseverance, and achievements, and serves as an inspiration to future generations of Indigenous athletes.

The Hall of Fame was the MASRC's response to the 87th Call to Action ratified by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada:

"We call upon all levels of government, in collaboration with Aboriginal Peoples, sports halls of fame, and other relevant organizations, to provide public education that tells the national story of Aboriginal athletes in history."

The Manitoba Indigenous Sports Hall of Fame and Museum supports the work done by so many to honour Indigenous Excellence nationwide.

On April 12th the Class of 2023 will be honoured in a ceremony and formally inducted in the all-Indigenous Hall of Fame.
