announced Thursday the 14 athletes invited to attend training camp at Humber College beginning June 23, 2022, ahead of the FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022. Part of the invite list is Manitoba's Tanah Becker who suited up for the U16 Canadian National Team last summer and brought home a FIBA Americas Silver Medal and qualified for this summer's World Cup.  Tanah is currently in Hamilton, Ontario at the Lincoln Prep basketball program.  She will join Manitoba's 18U Provincial Team later this summer to represent at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagra Falls, ON.

The FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 will be held July 9-17 in Debrecen, Hungary and fans can catch all the action streaming live on FIBA YouTube.

Head Coach Cheryl Jean-Paul of Manitoba returns to lead Canada and her U16 coaching staff from last summer also remains intact as Fabienne Blizzard and Nate McKibbon are both back on the bench.

Canada is in Group C and will face Spain (July 9, 9:00 a.m. ET), Asia TBD (July 10, 6:00 a.m. ET) and Egypt (July 12, 9:00 a.m. ET).

All teams qualify for the Round of 16, where they will cross between Groups A and B and C and D (A1 v B4, A2 v B3, etc.). The winners of the Round of 16 games advance to the quarter-finals, while the losers move on to the classification games for places 9-16.

The FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 will be the first U17 age-group event since 2018 when Canada finished ninth.  The FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2020 was cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Players selected to attend training camp attended a Canada Basketball Women's High Performance National Team Age-Group Assessment Camp in March.

Canada is currently ranked 8th overall in the FIBA women's age-group rankings, presented by Nike.
