The Algoma Thunderbirds, located in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario has announced the signing of Winnipeg's Riya Donnelly to join the women's basketball team for the 2022-23 season. The Thunderbirds play in the Ontario University Association (OUA) at the USPORTS level.
Riya is coming off a solid grade 12 season with the Daniel McIntyre Maroons and is a member of the Winnipeg Wildcats basketball club. This past March she was recognized as the number 7 ranked player in Manitoba in the annual Winnipeg Free Press Coaches Poll. She was recently named to the Basketball Manitoba Awards Graduating All-Star Games hosted last month. Riya was named a recipient of the Sport Manitoba Women to Watch grant in July 2021 and the CTV Sportstar of the Week last August.
