In light of the news announced on Friday, February 11, 2022, and taking effect on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, by the Province of Manitoba tied to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, the current Public Health Orders have been updated.  The details include...

    • NEW: MASK USAGE: Manitoba's indoor sports facilities no longer require the wearing of masks as of March 15, 2022.  Basketball Manitoba and Sport Manitoba still recommend the wearing of masks in crowds and where social distancing can not be maintained.  Other facilities may still require the use of masks off the court and have a different timetable for vaccine requirements.  Participants are asked to follow those rules should they differ from the current Manitoba Public Health Orders.
    • NO CHANGE: POSTGAME HANDSHAKING: Basketball Manitoba is advising all member leagues, clubs and teams that the act of all game participants (players, coaches, officials) shaking hands/fist-bumping following a game will remain on pause until at least April 1, 2022, to allow the winter seasons to finish.  Teams can do a cheer for the other team and a wave following a game to minimize unnecessary additional contact.
    • RECOMMENDATION: Basketball Manitoba encourages and recommends the wearing of non-medical masks when off the court and while inside a sporting facility, maintaining social distancing when off the court, the sanitization of hands and equipment before and after any use and advising those experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms to stay home until those symptoms have passed.  Read more at https://manitoba.ca/covid19/fundamentals/focus-on-the-fundamentals.html

SPORT MANITOBA MEMO: MARCH 14, 2022

Please be advised as of March 15, 2022, wearing a mask indoors is no longer required within our public health orders.

However, Sport Manitoba strongly encourages facility residents and visitors to wear a mask and respect social distancing measures while in our public spaces when not participating in physical activity.

For your reference, our website has a designated COVID-19 blog dedicated to the most up-to-date guidelines for our facility and for sport: sportmanitoba.ca/covid-19/

NOTE: If there is a discrepancy between any Basketball Manitoba statement to the actual Manitoba Public Health Orders, the public health orders will always take precedence.

Basketball Manitoba will continue to monitor the current public health orders and make any updates or revisions as needed.  This article will be updated as further information on these impacts is known.
