Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce a move made by its Board of Directors to permit and support the reopening of the traditional club basketball tryout window that normally begins around the middle of August.  This year’s date that will permit and support Manitoba-based basketball clubs to resume their tryouts will be as early as Friday, August 13, 2021.

The recent allowance by Manitoba Public Health to permit indoor groups of up to 25 players (not including coaches) to congregate at a time inside a traditional sized gymnasium and with the traditional tryout window fast approaching, made it a needed move to continue reopening the sport back to some level of normalcy.  Additional health restrictions may come by mid-August and may impact these plans (both in a positive or even negative way) so those interested in getting involved with club basketball are suggested to stay connected with the Basketball Manitoba website and social media platforms as things continue to unfold.

Other health regulations remain in place including the wearing of masks by all while indoors, the sanitizing of hands and shared equipment before and after use, separating personal equipment from others, social distancing while off the court and following the general health guidance of Manitoba Public Health to stay home when feeling ill or showing any Covid-19 symptoms.

Clubs looking to host an open tryout can share their details with Basketball Manitoba once they are set.  It is strongly suggested to ask players to pre-register with the club prior to attending a tryout to ensure the maximum number of 25 players is not exceeded and players are not turned away at the door.  Only tryouts occurring on or after August 13, 2021, will be promoted, endorsed and insured by Basketball Manitoba.,

Clubs were notified of this news earlier this week and many are currently making the needed plans to get their programs back on the court.  It is expected that many clubs will soon begin announcing their tryout details.  Those details once announced will be shared on the Basketball Manitoba website, social media and be included in its email newsletters.
