With sadness, Basketball Manitoba and the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame announces the death of Ross Zilkey who passed just two days short of his 67th birthday on March 20, 2021.

Ross was a loyal, committed, and conscientious teammate who took his responsibilities to heart. He cheerfully volunteered his services as team manager to the University of Manitoba Bison Men’s program for four years (1973-77).  Ross will be remembered for his kind, caring nature, his sense of humor and contagious laugh. He made friends easily and was a good friend to all.

He was a teammate in the truest sense of the word because he was always there for everyone. He knew his role and fulfilled it to the best of his ability with no expectation of personal glory. He did it simply because he valued his teammates and friends.

The sad irony is that for someone who was always ready to assist those he cared for, in the end, he was so reluctant to accept help from those who cared for him.

May he rest in peace.
