Providence Athletics has announced that 5' 7" Forward from Elton Collegiate Alex Johnson will join the Providence women's basketball team for the 2020-21 season.

Head coach Joel Coursey announced earlier this week that Alex has committed to play for the Pilots and had this to say about his newest recruit: "I am happy to welcome Alex into our program. I believe that she fits the culture of our institution and will do very well at Providence. Alex has attended our basketball camp and been a part of the Junior Bobcats club team for a number of years, helping to develop her game above her peers. A trait that I find genuine is the excitement and awe of joining our program. Players who really want to be here, are the ones who thrive and succeed. The amount that Alex wants to be a part of our program, gives me high expectations of the level of dedication she has to grow and develop while she is a Pilot. There is a high level of excitement with the addition of this high-quality person to our team.”

Alex has played basketball for her high school team since grade 9 and is currently a co-captain for her team averaging 12 points per game. For her community work, Alex regularly volunteers for an after school program at an elementary school in her community.

Alex plans on studying in the Health Science program here at Providence.

“I feel so fortunate to have this amazing opportunity to play with such a welcoming and supportive group of girls." Said Alex about joining the Providence Pilots. "It is exciting to have this chance to improve my play further and to get to play at a post-secondary level. I am looking forward to many more hours of hard work to continue achieving my dream. ‘I can do all this through Him who gives me strength’ Philippians 4:13. I can’t wait for this fall when I can attend Providence, expand and strengthen my faith, attend university, build new friendships and play ball.”
