DEADLINE NOVEMBER 22, 2019: Basketball Manitoba has announced that it is now accepting applications for the 2020 & 2021 Canada Games Manitoba Provincial Team Program for the male and female 17U age group and for the 2020 15U male and female coaching positions.

The deadline for all coaching applications is Friday, November 22, 2019, at 5:00 pm.

Basketball Manitoba, one of the province's leading sports governing bodies, annually runs provincial teams to provide elite athletes with a unique opportunity to develop their skills through high-quality summer practices and a challenging competition schedule. Coaches can either apply as a 'team' or individually.

Applications for the 17U Provincial Teams are for a 2-year (summer) commitment.  The successful candidates will serve as the coaching staff for the 2020 Canada Basketball National Championships AND the 2021 Canada Summer Games.  Applications for the 15U Provincial Teams are for a 1-year (summer) commitment and will serve as the coaching staff for the 2020 Canada Basketball National Championships.

At this time, we are seeking skilled and passionate people to apply as a coaching team or individual for positions involving


15U Female Provincial Team (1-year appointment)
  • 'Head Coach' and 'Assistant Coach' (players born in 2005 or later)

15U Male Provincial Team (1-year appointment)
  • 'Head Coach' and 'Assistant Coach' (players born in 2005 or later)
17U Female Canada Games Provincial Team (2-year appointment) 
  • 'Head Coach', 'Assistant Coach' and 'Manager' (players born in 2003 & 2004)
17U Male Canada Games Provincial Team (2-year appointment)
  • 'Head Coach', 'Assistant Coach' and 'Manager' (players born in 2003 & 2004)


2020 Program Overview

All try-outs for the 15U & 17U programs will be held in the spring of 2020, with the programs running through to the National Championships in early August 2020.  The male 15U & 17U teams will pilot a new High-Performance model for the summer of 2020.  This model will see the Male Provincial Teams train around club activity over June and July before hosting a training camp immediately prior to departing for the Canadian National Championships in Kingston, Ontario, August 3-8.  The boy's program will also see the removal of pre-Nationals tournament travel to allow full participation in spring & summer club activity.  The boy's program participation fee will also be reduced reflecting the removal of travel costs to pre-Nationals warm-up tournaments and events.  The female teams will compete in the 2020 Canada Basketball  National Championships in Prince Edward Island, August 3-8.  The female Provincial Teams will continue in its current model that includes a full slate of training and competition events leading up to the National Championships.  


Coaching Criteria - as set by Canada Basketball 



15U Male and Female Teams (Staff of 2 People Per Team)
  1. Head Coach = NCCP Train to Train - Certified OR Full Level 2 NCCP Certification AND a minimum 5 years of experience as a basketball head coach or equivalent experience.
  2. Assistant Coach = NCCP Train to Train - Certified OR Full Level 2 NCCP Certification AND a minimum 3 years of experience as a basketball head or assistant coach or equivalent experience.

17U Male and Female Teams (Staff of 3 People Per Team)
  1. Head Coach = NCCP Train to Compete - Certified OR Full Level 3 NCCP Certification AND a minimum 5 years of experience as a basketball head coach or equivalent experience.
  2. Assistant Coach = NCCP Train to Compete - Certified OR Full Level 3 NCCP Certification AND a minimum 3 years of experience as a basketball head or assistant coach or equivalent experience.
  3. Manager = No NCCP Certification required.

Other Notes: 

  • Coaches can either apply as a 'team' of people or individually as a head or assistant coach to be partnered up with other successful candidates.
  • Male Head Coaches of female teams must have a female Assistant Coach and female Head Coaches of male teams must have a male Assistant Coach. 
  • All selected coaches must complete the new Sport Manitoba Respect in Sport online program by May 1.  Coaches who completed the RIS program prior to 2016 will need to complete the updated program.  
  • All selected coaches will undergo a Canadian Police Records Check as part of the hiring process.
  • Basketball Manitoba will provide the successful coaches in the program with the required levels of NCCP certification as needed to meet the Canada Basketball requirements.
Honorarium
  • Successful applicants are eligible to receive an honorarium at the completion of the summer program. 


Application for Competition
  • Please submit a cover letter and coaching resume by November 22, 2019, at 5:00 pm by completing the below application form.  A good coaching resume should include your previous coaching experience, your work experience and education.  

Please note that the selection of successful candidates will not necessarily be limited to
those who apply.  Interviews will take place in December 2020.  We thank all the interested applicants, however only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
