CMU Women's Basketball has announced the commitment of Collège Jeanne-Sauvé guard Reyna Reyes for the 2019-20 Northern Intercollegiate season as the roster continues to take shape. Reyes will join high school teammate Anna Pyne who signed earlier this off-season as rookies with the Blazers.

Reyes helped lead les Olympiens to a third-place finish in Winnipeg's powerful SCAC division in her final year of 'AAAA' high school girls basketball, averaging 7 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists.

"Reyna has been an invaluable member of the CJS basketball program," said Reyes' high school coach Sonia Radi. "She is always looking to work on her game while helping to make others better alongside her. Perhaps Reyna's strongest attribute is her ability to lead and to bring a team together. The girls really respected her and looked to her for guidance throughout the season."

In one of her best performances, Reyes was selected Player of the Game at the Sisler Spartans tournament in one of CJS's most difficult games of the season, facing eventual 2019 MHSAA 'AAAA' Provincial Champions, Oak Park Raiders. She was also awarded a Player of the Game recognition at the St. Mary's Academy tournament and helped lead les Olympiens to a third-place finish at the Sturgeon Heights tournament.

"Reyna is an extremely smart player who tends to pick things up very quickly," said Blazers' head coach Joe Di Curzio. "Her ability to get to the basket with such power will really fit in well with our team. She also has the ability to play amazing defense against anyone."

Not to be overshadowed by her on-court abilities, Reyes' talents extend outside of the gym as well where she has maintained a 95% academic average in high school while finding time to volunteer on a variety of clubs and organizations. A pianist since the age of 4 and an accomplished music composer, Reyes was selected to perform her original works nationally in Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto.

The Blazers open their 2019-20 preseason in Alberta when they tip-off with the St. Mary's Lightning, Ambrose Lions and 2019 CCAA National Champions, Olds Broncos October 4th to 6th.
