Sixth year Bison men's basketball head coach Kirby Schepp is pleased to announce the commitment of guard Joseph Medrano to the Bison program for the upcoming 2014-15 season.  Medrano, 18, is a 6'0", 160 lbs. guard who played the last three seasons at Sisler High School and completed his senior year as 2013-14 MHSAA (Manitoba High School Athletic Association) AAAA Male Player of the Year. The Winnipeg native was captain of Sisler Spartans team in 2013-14 while part of the squad that finished in the MHSAA AAAA Final 4. During his award-winning season, Medrano scored a stunning 56 points in a game against DMCI plus added 37 points and nine rebounds in a quarter-final match against Garden City during the MHSAA provincial championship.

Prior to the 2013-14 season, Medrano was a major player for the Spartans as they were championship finalist in the MHSAA provincial championship in 2012-13 and he was named a tournament all-star while dropping a game-high 31 points in the championship final against Garden City. In addition, he scored 47 points in a 2012-13 game versus Winston Knowles, RG and was captain of the sliver medallist 2013 Team Manitoba Canada Summer Games men's basketball team.

Schepp talked about Medrano, "We are very excited to add Joseph to our Bison family. As the 2014 MHSAA AAAA player of the year, he has proven himself to be an outstanding prospect for the next level. He is the best shooter in Manitoba and a leader for the powerhouse Sisler Spartans program plus the Manitoba Canada Summer Games Team. At Sisler, Joe has been extremely well coached by Bison Alumni Scott Martin and has been a winner at every level. Joe's dynamic scoring and shooting ability should fit very well into our up-tempo style of play."
