The 2013-14 CIS men's basketball all-star, all-rookie teams and season honours were announced on Wednesday, March 5 and the University of Manitoba Bisons had one student-athlete honoured for his efforts.  Bison men's basketball forward Andrea Arruda (pronounced: ah-rude-ah) was selected to the 2013-14 CIS Men's Basketball All-Rookie Team. This is the first time a Bison men's basketball player has been selected for a CIS All-Rookie Team since it was originated in the 2005-06 season.

Arruda, 20, was a starter all season during his rookie campaign at Manitoba after playing high school at Garden City Collegiate in Winnipeg. In his first year with the Bisons, the Winnipeg native was first on the team and 17th in Canada West scoring with 13.8 points per game average along with fifth in conference 3-point field goal percentage at .420 plus seventh in conference minutes played at 31.8 per game.

The 6'4", 180 lbs. forward started and played in all 22 conference regular season games and was also second on the team with 5.5 rebounds per game and first on the squad with 26 steals as a rookie.

"We are very proud of Andre's accomplishments this year. After coming off a knee injury last year, to starting every game for us this year, he has made huge strides in his development," commented Bison men's basketball head coach Kirby Schepp. "He had an outstanding season but has even a brighter future ahead of him."
