2012-Rim-Rocker-Clinic.pngThe Rim Rockers Basketball Team of the Winnipeg Women’s Basketball League ran its first Developmental Skills Clinic this fall, sponsored by John W. Gunn Middle School and Basketball Manitoba. The clinic was targeted to both male and female athletes aged 11 to 14 as a pre-season skills camp. The clinic boasted a total of 45 athletes participating in the 3-hour camp. This year’s theme was “Hard Work”. Athletes were encouraged not only to push themselves to their limits but also create an environment where hard work and positive attitudes were embraced at all skill levels. Drills covered ball handling, shooting form and defensive play as well as a variety of cooperative and competitive games and activities.

“The clinic was a huge success; we’re planning on making this an annual event,” says Amber Ritlbauer, co-captain of Rim Rockers and Physical Education Specialist for River East Transcona School Division. “In the future we will offer the clinic to more athletes to better promote basketball in our community. In particular, we want to help develop female athletes and encourage them to participate in the sport for many years to come.”
