With the start of the 2011-2012 Canada West season one week away, head coach Tanya McKay is already looking to the future. McKay is pleased to announce the commitment of Lauren Anderson (Westwood Collegiate) to the University of Winnipeg Women's Basketball program. Anderson will suit up for the team next September for the start of the 2012-2013 season. Anderson is a 6’2 post averaged 38 points, 15 rebounds and 8 blocks per game for the Warriors during the 2010-2011 season.
Lauren was named to the All-Manitoba team (2010, 2011) and has played for the Manitoba Provincial Basketball team for four years (2008-2011). Following the 2010-2011 season, Anderson was ranked as the number two girl’s high school basketball player in Manitoba.
“Lauren is a very gifted basketball player with a strong basketball IQ. She has the ability to score from a variety of areas on the floor, is a solid defender in the paint, and has a nose to track the ball on rebounds. Over the past two summers coaching Lauren with the Manitoba Provincial Basketball team she has also grown into a solid Leader. Lauren is very coachable young athlete who is a strong role model and an excellent teammate. She will be a great addition to our Wesmen Program next September”, said Wesmen head coach Tanya McKay.
