Sample ImageOn Monday evening in Hillsboro, Oregon, Winnipeger Kirby Schepp led the Canadian squad representing the country at the Nike Global Basketball Challenge to a second place finish, its best ever results at the 5 year old event.  Schepp, the Head Coach of the University of Manitoba Bisons was given the reigns of the squad for the 3 day event which featured all-star U19 teams from around the world including Germany, China, Brazil, Puerto Rico along with four teams from the USA.  Canada was the only non-US team to advance to the winning side of the tournament bracket with victories over China and USA East.  Canada was topped 99-94 in Monday night's final against USA Midwest.  The 8-team, 12-game tournament features the top high school and U19 basketball players from the best International Teams.  For players from the United States, the Nike Global Challenge is the final tournament in Nike's series of Skills Academies. In June, these players will be invited to participate in positional skills camps around the country hosted by several NBA superstars including Deron Williams (PG), Kevin Durant (Wings) and Amare Stoudamire (Big Men). They then traveled to Akron, Ohio, to participate in the LeBron James US Skills Academy. The top 30 players selected from this camp will seed three USA teams to represent the United States in the Nike Global Challenge.  Congratulations to Coach Schepp for being selected to lead Team Canada and for the success with the squad on the court!  For the full game results...
