Coaching education remains a high priority at Sport Manitoba. Access to
educational opportunities can often be difficult for our coaches in
rural areas. Sport Manitoba has identified these challenges and is
developing ways to address them so all our coaches can access quality
education. The new Sport for Life centre was developed with our rural coaches in
mind. The training rooms on the 2nd floor as well as the Conference
Centre and Theater in the lower level have been wired to be able to
record and eventually webcast, live or delayed, professional development
sessions across the province, truly making it a Sport Centre for the
entire province. Phase 2, the development of our Field House, will
greatly expand the sessions that can be offered.

On the ground in the seven regions of Sport Manitoba (Norman,
Parkland, Westman, Central, Winnipeg, Eastman, and Interlake), Sport
Manitoba has connected with regional partners to create Coaching
Academies. These Coaching Academies bring professional development
sessions led by expert presenters out to all of the Sport Manitoba
regions. This allows coaches to attend training opportunities in their
own back yard.

Regions such as the Interlake are currently confirming their content
for the Coaching Academies. If you are a coach in the Interlake,
please take time to visit the survey here and provide your feedback on the types of sessions you would like to see offered.

Other Academies, like the Eastman Coaching Academy and the Lakeshore
Sport Alliance (Interlake Region) are confirming dates for the sessions
to be offered the first half of 2011. Keep an eye out for the 2011
sessions starting in the very near future in these regions.
