The 1950 and 1951 Winnipeg Stellars will be celebrating their 60th
anniversary with a reunion in Winnipeg, November 4-7. The Stellars won
two consecutive Canadian Junior Men’s Championships in those years at a
time when junior basketball was some of the best played in Canada. In
addition to their induction into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame in
1983 and 1984, both teams were also honoured with induction into the
Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 1995.

The Stellars had a long history of excellence that was started in
Winnipeg’s North End at the old Stella Mission. Their championship
seasons were filled with stories of train trips from coast-to-coast in
Canada with a group of young men who learned how to work together as a
team to overcome huge obstacles and overwhelming odds.

The surviving team members will be gathering in their old home town this
coming weekend to celebrate the 60th anniversary of their
championships. As a part of their schedule of events, they will be
hosted at a wine and cheese reception at the Manitoba Basketball Hall of
Fame on the 2nd Floor of the University of Winnipeg Duckworth Athletic
Centre on Thursday, November 4 at 7:00 P.M. Also at that time, the Hall
will be unveiling its newest improvement, a television monitor which
will show continuous highlights of classic games, and which has been
graciously donated by the Stellars. All friends of our basketball Hall
of Fame are welcome as well as anyone who would like to meet, in person,
some of the people who helped build the rich tradition of basketball in
our province.
