Men’s basketball coach Gil Cheung has announced  two assistant coaches that will join him in his first season leading the Bobcats.  Joe Smith, a former Bobcat and teammate of Cheung’s, will be joining the team as lead assistant coach. Smith played five years of professional basketball in France, Denmark and Portugal since leaving Brandon in 2003. Smith was a stand-out forward on a Bobcat team that made a CIS National Championship appearance.  Also joining the staff will be Jeremy Wielenga of Brandon. He is a graduate of Neelin High School who played with ex-bobcat Chad Jacobson.
Wielenga played college basketball at UBC-Okanagan for one season and has been helping Neelin High School varsity coach Don Thompson the past few seasons.

“We are very excited to have Coach Smith join our staff here at BU,” says Cheung. “It’s an ideal fit for us as I have a good relationship with Coach Smith and he brings great knowledge and passion to our team. I think he will be vital in the development of all of our Post players.”

“Jeremy brings a passion for the game and his goal is to be an elite level coach,” says Cheung. “He is a hard-worker that will help us both on and off the court. We are very lucky to have someone with his experience, work-ethic, and knowledge join our staff.”

Both Smith and Wielenga will be working towards completing Bachelor’s degrees while working as assistant coaches.
