Summer is a time to enjoy the weather and lots of free time! For some it is a great opportunity to play some basketball and improve their skills. The JrB Basketball program is excited to introduce this coming summer, the first ever “Skills Camps”. The 2008 summer will consist of one camp running August 22, 23, & 24 in the Investors Group Athletic Centre, at the University of Manitoba. This camp will include, in total, 10 hours of fundamental skill work over the course of the three days. Basic but essential fundamental skills such as dribbling, shooting, passing, and rebounding will be the focus throughout the camp. This camp is suitable for players of all skills levels, as it is a good introduction to skills for beginners or an excellent way to improve and reinforce existing skills for more experienced players. It is offered to girls and boys Grades 7-12, with only 48 spots available for girls and 48 for boys. The spot will be filled based on a ‘first come first serve’ basis.

JrB Basketball INC Presents Elite Basketball Academy

JrB BASKETBALL would like to offer you the opportunity to improve your entire game. We are running a High Performance camp from August 25-29, 2008, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, at the Investors Group Athletic Centre for girls and boys basketball players in Grade 10, 11, & 12.  The cost is $350 for the week.  The focus of the camp will be to address all aspects of basketball development. The camp will cover the following:

  • • Fundamental Skills – dribbling, shooting, passing, and rebounding

  • • Physical Training – weights, agility training, weight training, and hand eye training

  • • Nutrition – learn how to power your body properly

  • • Biomechanics – perfecting movements and shooting technique utilizing Dartfish Biomechanics Software

  • • Mental Skills – class sessions with Sport Psychologist to improve focus and build confidence

  • • Academic Advising – guidance counselor to educate about scholarship opportunities

Our coaches will emphasize complete skill development utilizing the latest cutting edge training techniques. The fundamental drills will include live action drills designed to maximize training and discover their limits and push through them.

Introduction into weight training, agility, and hand eye improvement will focus their off court training. We will challenge athletes in the physical training sessions to push themselves and discover their limits and push through them.

Athletes more than ever are dedicating themselves spending hour training. Unfortunately, they lack the knowledge on how to best fuel their bodies for training. Athletes will learn through classroom sessions how to optimize nutrition to help further their development.

With today’s technology skills can be improved upon by analysis. Dartfish Biomechanics software allows athletes to evaluate their skill execution. Through comparative analysis of their technique athletes will learn how to improve their skills.

Some say that the game is 90% mental and 10% physical. We will take care of the mental as well. In order to be successful in sport and in life sound mental skills are necessary. Through classroom sessions with sport psychologist and university level athletes the camp participants will learn how to improve their self-talk, focus, and their “mental toughness”.

The connection between school performance and athletic performance are connected. You cannot have on without the other. Your parents give you the opportunity to play basketball. Education is a privilege and to be valued above basketball. Today athletes can attend college or university on basketball scholarships. A guidance counselor will meet and talk with athletes to discuss scholarship opportunities that are available and the necessary courses they will need to be accepted into university or college.

Our goal is to empower athletes with knowledge that will give athletes the mental, physical, and emotional tools necessary to excel. We focus on the whole player.
