Rick Nickelchok, Director of Athletics at Brandon University is pleased to announce the hiring of Jaime Hickson as the new Head Coach of the Bobcats Women’s Basketball program. The appointment is effective July 10, 2006.

A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Hickson has been actively involved with
the Women’s Basketball community in the province of Manitoba for the
past ten years, both as a coach and an administrator.

According to Rick Nickelchok, Athletic Director, “Jaime is a student of
the game! She is young in her trade and has gained her coaching
experience in the CIS as an Assistant Coach under Tanya Mackay,
University of Winnipeg Head Coach, one of the most respected and
successful coaches in CIS basketball. While completing her Masters
Degree (Coaching), she also served one year as an assistant coach for
the University of Victoria Vikes. Most recently, Hickson was the Head
Coach of the Canadian Mennonite University Women’s program (2005-2006).
I am very pleased that Jaime has agreed to lead the Bobcats Women’s
Basketball program," commented Nickelchok. "Jaime is well connected in
Manitoba, brings with her a passion for the sport and one who knows the
critical importance of balancing athletic and academic excellence.
Jaime’s coaching philosophy and academic interests also exemplifies
what we are trying to accomplish with our program.”

“It’s a honor to be involved with Brandon University and I’m excited to
be at the helm of the Women ’s Basketball program. I look forward to
the years ahead and am excited to involve both the university and
Westman community with our Women’s basketball program,” stated Hickson.

"Once I met President Visentin, the search committee members and the
staff of BU athletics, I felt that there was a genuine commitment to
establishing Brandon as a leader in athletics similar to its leadership
role in academics within Manitoba," said Hickson. "I am looking forward
to establishing Brandon Women’s basketball as a very competitive
program within Canada West and nationally. It is a tremendous
institution with the capability to reaching great heights both within
and outside of the Canada West Conference. I look forward to working
with Rick (Nickelchok) and the many talented people within Athletics /
Physical Education, at the university and in the Westman."

Academically, Hickson earned a bachelor's degree (Coaching major) from
the University of Winnipeg in 2004 and a master's degree (Coaching) in
2006 from the University of Victoria. She has conducted research in the
areas of student athlete academic performance and has led some very
successful fundraisers within the Winnipeg community with supporters
