Due to COVID-19, MCAC basketball and volleyball 2021-22 schedule will be paused until the end of January 2022.  Futsal play will begin in February 2022.

As COVID-19 continues to have an impact on the community, the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) membership has decided to pause the 2021-22 basketball and volleyball season until the end of January 2022.

The first half of this season was successfully completed with the holiday break originally scheduled to end on January 13 with basketball resuming play.

Shane Ray, MCAC, commented, “The health and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans is foremost in our minds as we reached this decision. While public health orders allow the continuation of the season, this pause is one way the conference can contribute to the ongoing battle against COVID. In addition, all members require student-athletes to be vaccinated.”

Conference games in both basketball and volleyball will be scheduled to resume on the January 28-30 weekend, subject to change depending on ongoing conditions. The futsal schedule will now begin on February 5, 2022.

In light of MCAC games that might be affected due to COVID-19, the best effort will be made to play games within institution policy considerations and each member's ability to field a team. Games that can not be played due to the COVID-19 status of a team or institutional policy will be considered cancelled – not forfeited.

The MCAC schedule will be evaluated on an ongoing basis in an effort to provide a complete season for the student-athletes, which could result in an amended conference championship schedule to allow for the completion of the full 2021-22 campaign.
