Manitoba wheelchair basketball athlete and Team Canada player Josh Brown of East St. Paul is set to begin his first professional season after signing with BSR CB Villa de Leganés in Spain for the 2026-27 campaign.
Brown, a 3.0-classification athlete, made his Senior Men's National Team debut at the 2025 IWBF Americas Cup and has been named to Canada's roster for the 2026 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships. His move to Leganés marks the next stage of a career that began in Manitoba and has included national, collegiate and international competition.
Brown was introduced to wheelchair basketball in 2014 after first competing in sledge hockey. He went on to represent Manitoba at the Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League National Championship, Canada Games and Junior National Championship events before joining Wheelchair Basketball Canada's National Academy program in 2018.
Brown later attended and graduated from Southwest Minnesota State University. His competitive highlights include a 2022 Junior Nationals tournament all-star selection, a 2022 CWBL Division 2 all-star selection, and membership on the Toronto Rollin' Raptors team that became the first Canadian club to win the NWBA Adult Division II National Championship in 2019.
At the international level, Brown competed for Canada at the 2022 IWBF Men's U23 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship and helped Canada finish fourth at the 2025 Americas Cup.
Brown is from East St. Paul, Manitoba, stands 6'0" and is classified as a 3.0 player. He is now listed with BSR CB Villa de Leganés for the 2026-27 season.
